I’ll have to check my Little Lunakia to be sure, but they are at most 2.5mm there towards the top. I’m still pretty young with decently corrected vision, but good grief if the wind is blowing just a bit it’s an exercise in patience to get a rod strung up sometimes.
As far as unnecessary drag... I’m not an engineer of the pencil and paper type, so I can’t speak to the technicality of it, but I can tell you I can cast a .5gr jig-head and trout magnet a heck of a lot further with this 6’3” Lunakia with teeny tiny guides than I can my 6’6” Loomis IMX 781 UL or 6’9” St Croix UL Panfish. A lot of that is rod action/taper... but the guides don’t seem to hurt too much.
Here is a good article. My first use of micro guides were using an ESP Power Lite 7 foot rod a number of years back. The rod....for the price.....had good sensitivity. Those micro guides were a big part of that. Of course they were nowhere near as small as the guides on the rods I’m using now. In the past 6 years...now going on 7 years I guess....of buying JDM rods I’ve seen the micro guides go from 3.5mm....3m.....2.5mm and now 2mm. They are certainly not for every fishing application. But all I do is cast micro plastics using 2-3 pound test line....no slip floats so no bobber stops. It’s funny since I started using rods with the 2mm micros when I fish a rod with 3.5mm micros I think “man those guides are big”....LOL. Which of course they are not. It seems though the 2018 and later UL rods are going to 2mm guides. I don’t know how much smaller they can get but I guess they could.

I tested out the sunline fc sniper bms 3 lbs test on my tenyru lunakia yesterday.
Was easy to see when fishing, doesn't cast as far as varivas ester 2.3 lbs but similar.
Caught of bunch of blue gills and small largemouth. Liked the extra strength and not tying a flouro leader on. Definitely easier to see in bright sunlight

Been using this line the past few trips.....haven’t found any bluegill and that is why no posts about it. I have however caught quite a few KY bass on it. I feel as you that it sure makes a difference without the leader knot. It is not as sensitive as ester. I like it although I’m giving up considerable casting distance over the ester. As Yodie mentioned stepping down to some 2.5# test will help with the casting distance.

I was looking on the website for this line, there is only a small difference in line diameter between the 2.5 and 3.0 I feel like this line is breaking higher than its rated strength, so I will be most likely going to the 2.0 next to see how much it helps with cast difference.
