    Default Singing Cicadas

I fished my in-laws pond for a little while this afternoon and caught some small bluegill and bass. I used the Leland Lures TSS rod and man I really like the rod for the price. I had noticed a few cicadas hit the water and get hammered. So I tied on a small Rebel hopper (closest thing I had that looked like a cicada). It was hit a bunch by bluegill but didn’t catch any on it. A couple of bass grabbed it too but I only was able to get this one small guy in. I think the tiny hooks didn’t help much.

This is my first attempt at making a YouTube video and attaching the link to a post. Hopefully it works!

Nice catch.....that had to be fun on the TSS rod. Years ago my son and I were fishing from the bank in what we call “The Pond”. It is the catch pool below Center Hill Dam on the Caney Fork. It was one of those years for the Cicadas. We weren’t having much luck until we started fishing with the cicadas. As soon as it hit the water a big rainbow would kill it. Throw a lure and nothing.....we even had some cicada lures. But throw a real one out and hang on. I don’t recall a cicada hatch in a while. I guess there could be one going on here now as I haven’t been out to find out.

    Regards

I lived in TN a few years back when it was one of their years and the things were everywhere. Don’t mind the noise a little but this was real loud and I was catching crappie, never thought about trying for the gills or anything else with them for bait. Thanks for the video, memories resurfaced.
