    Default More Creek Fishing

This morning I got up early and headed to a local creek in Arkansas. I went further up stream that I have ever been. Flow is really low now (~20 cfs) and makes it ideal for using finesse tactics while wade fishing. I used the Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 71 TZ Nano with Daiwa Luvias 2004, spooled with 3.3 lb YGK Ambercord Ester line. I can’t say that I like this particular Ester line. The Triple surgeon knot to the 2-lb leader line was a constant weak point. I did not have this issue with the Orange Varivas Ester line. I wish they made the organs Varivas line bigger than 2.3-lb. Despite having some line issues, the Blue Current laid the smack down on the fish. I had another 50 fish creek day with some quality creek Spotted Bass and Largemouth Bass. Several quality bass spit the hook. I was getting a good hook set, it sure what was happening. I ended up catching 6 species (Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Shadow Bass, Longear Sunfish, Green Sunfish, and Bluegill). The most productive bait was the Niko hellgrammite. I will be bring a small canoe next time to get past the pool that stoped me. Can’t wait!

Thanks for the pics! That shadow bass is cool looking, do you know if they hybridize with goggle eyes?

Shadow Bass are one of my favorite fish in Arkansas. Goggle eyes, also known as Rock Bass are related to Shadow Bass, and Ozark Bass in Arkansas. I’m not sure if any drainages in Arkansas have more than one of these species in them. If they did, I bet they could hybridize. Very closely related.

A great trip. Love the Shadow Bass colors. The second pic is about as pretty as they come. Thanks for taking us along.
