    Default Targeting Bluegill today ...

Well actually, I couldn't find the crappie, soooo I went after some of the big gills in my home lake.

Didn't find the big boys, but I got on top of a school of decent ones I spotted on the DI, terrorizing a 50 yard long stretch of west facing, near vertical bluff, going to 37 fow. Today the fish were suspended 5 to 10 feet deep, over 30-40 fow, but in fairly (20 feet) close proximity to the bluff face. Light north breeze, mostly sunny, 8:00 am.

I was usin an 8 foot Crappie Max rod, strung with 6 lb hi-vis suffix, tied on a small Trout Magnet slip float set to 7 feet, over a swivel, 4 bl mono leader, 1/8 oz split, and a gold crappie hook with a small piece of salted popcorn shrimp (I got the "recipe" here somewhere) pushed to the bend of the hook.

The salted popcorn shrimp was a wise choice, as the action was non stop for more than an hour, as I spot locked, and jogged back and forth along this deep channel cut. I just LOVE my new Terrova

I have no idea how many bluegill, and redear I caught this morn, but it was somewhere between quite a lot, and a ship load ….. Anyway, here's a few pics, thanks for lookin.

Wow, those are some pretty Panfish. Funny thing, I can find the Crappie here no problems, but have to hunt for the Gills this time of year. I suspect they are in the deep waters too, next to the bluffs also. It just seems like they move more than the Crappie do. Anyway, good catch and report.

According to the MDC, that there is a juvenile green sunfish. Pound for pound one of the best fights around ….. Too bad they only get to 6" or so ….. They seem to hang in shallower, rocky bottom areas. I have no Idea what he was doin out here !

Definitely a Green Sunfish. I have seen some much larger than 6”. A month or so ago someone posted a real big one.
