Default My latest fly rod catches

Been slamming the gills lately with the fly rod having a blast!! My goal is still to catch a crappie and a 1+ pound bass on it! But for now these are fun and good practice!Name: 20190708_102829.jpg

Nice looking fish, and fun on the limber rod. The Bass should be easy on the fly rod this time of year, but the Crappie may be pretty deep and a little more difficult to catch. Keep after them though, pics are great!

There is a local pond that they put crappie in that hang in cover by the bank year round. Pond is only 6 feet max depth.

Some good looking fish. Anything caught on a buggy whip is fun, and the bigger ones memories stay with you a long time. I’m slinging a 4wt I just finished putting together, and need to use it more when I’m out. I started with some very cheap equipment, and fished from a canoe. Threw a betts or accardo popper bug into some Lilly pads one morning and a 5lb plus LMB just hated it and had to have it. My biggest so far, very surprised that the junk I was using held up, and fresh in my mind like it was yesterday. Enjoy and keep us posted. And try a little streamer about 2” for the crappie and LMB. They do well around here.

That must have been an insane fight!! I have a cheap Pflueger starter rod/reel that is says is a 5/6wt. Tomorrow I'm going to tie on the big minnow looking fly and try for some bass and crappie in a pond. If no luck I'll switch to the hand tied flies Binfordw sent me. I need to get some streamers and clouser minnow flies still.

The hardest part is keeping the blue gills off the flies!!Name: 20190616_150524.jpg

Looks like fun. It reminds me of being a kid and teaching myself how to cast a fly rod on a local lake. I caught many small sunfish with a black gnat pattern. Makes me want to dust off the old rod.

Addictive for sure. Without a doubt, there are times when nothing out fishes a fly rod and bug combination!

I have two 5/6/7 weight fly rods I bought on clearance years ago from Academy. I just purchased a few fly reels to mount on them. I have never thrown a fly rod but I am willing to learn. Now that I tie my own jig/flies I want to catch a fish on a flyrod. Looking forward to having a blast with it.
