Default better than last time out

I got to the ramp by 7 am and Les was there waiting for me. We launched his boat and headed over to the side creek to get away from the Sunday river traffic that was sure to come.

As we worked our way around a bend I thought that I spotted Skeetbum up ahead of us. I was going to give a shout out but we never close the gap enough to give the shout out.

This river fishing was new to Les and I was still learning what I was taught last week. ( kind of like the blind leading the blind ). But we were getting the rods to bend from time to time. The good part was that I was getting better at 'shooting ' the jig at the bank. Now all I need to do is to get the fish to bite the jigs.

Les decided to add a worm to his rig and he started to have some luck. Then his rod bent. round and round it went. I grabbed the net and waited for him to bring it closer to the boat for me to get the net under it. It took three or four tries, but we got it in the net. Turned out to be a nice spotted catfish.

I was using a small 2inch bobber to help me get some casting distance while I was learning the new system. I was bringing in some fish but I was hoping for dinner. Finally my rod bent and I had a good pull on it. This was going to be a big gill. ( nope , not a gill but one for the fry pan non the less )

We worked that creek and crossed over to the other side of the river. Just as we were getting reset up, up pulled a boat. It was Skeetbum. We sat and compared notes for awhile .

We tried a few more casts but the river traffic was starting to get heavy. My rule is when the jet skies are on the water, It's time for me to be off the water. We headed in.

Count for the day : 1 catfish, about a dozen gills, and 1 crappie ( 4 made the ride home for dinner )

Not bad! That is a cool looking Catfish. We don’t have Spotted Catfish in Arkansas but we do have some others species with some spots.

Y’all did good. I haven’t seen a crappie that size in a while. Nice to see y’all and meet Wes. I was hot and ready to go when we met up, chilled for a hour when I got home before I covered the boat.

We lasted about an other half hour before we headed in. River traffic was getting bad by then.

Spotted Catfish. Never seen one of those critters, really do not much care for them but they will bend the rod nicely. Your catches are getting better, keep it up and that transplanted TN feller might be following you!
