    Default Epic Creek Fishing Adventure

Today was one of those days that I will remember for a long time. I convinced a buddy of mine to float/fish a creek that is listed as too low to float. He thought I was a little crazy for suggesting that we should take our two boys on a four mile float when the creek is only at 1.5 feet on the gage. It didn’t take long before he realized why I wanted to check this stretch of the creek out. This stretch of Cadron Creek is a heavily pressured area in the spring and early summer, when water is higher and the float is more sporting. This time of year, it is much lower and has deep pools connected by short riffles that you have to drag the canoes over.

The four of us collectively caught over 80 fish. We caught some of the largest green sunfish and bluegill than I have seen in a long time. Most productive baits were 1/64 oz trout magnets of various colors, 1/32 oz roadrunner with 1-in black sliders, and black rooster tails. We were having so much fun catching the hard fighting creek sunfish, that we never switched to larger baits to catch Spotted and Largemouth Bass. It was a blast on the Major Craft TripleCross. I will definitely return in the near future. It looks like it will be a blast wade fishing when it gets even lower.

That does look like an epic day on the water. Lots of great fish pics and memories made. UL tackle is the only way to go for skinny water fun. Congrats.

Beautiful fish! Got me to thinking, after this hip heals up I might get back into kayaking. It’s just hard to beat places such as this.

    Regards

An excellent trip. I’d love to have a canoe trail that was like this.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have lived by and driven over this creek daily for the last decade. I have always short changed it because it is surrounded by private property and access is a little limited. I won’t let that stop m any more. Time for me to introduce myself (the local Fisheries biologist) to some land owners and see if I can get some more access.
