    Yep, I watched that video and purchase a couple of these rod cases because of it. Lol! I use these case to transport to a location and back home but was looking for something with quicker access while floating. Yes, I realize this is less protection and yes, I would probably shed a tear or two if I broke one, but sometimes you only have one shot at hitting that dark hole the smallie is hiding in. I think I will use the trough idea and see how safe I can make it.

    Maybe if you can pad the tip section, that will help.

    Still, I think the greatest threat to rods is “user error”. Getting out of a drift boat, a friend of mine almost broke the tip off my $600 fly rod.

    I am definitely thinking about some kind of padding and yes, I am more worried about me making a mistake than anything else.
