    I think it's a male RE - head looks too long for a hybrid...

    Thanks, he had a very dark mahogany chest when he came out of the water, made me take a second look.

    That's a redear, I have seen them come out of a little pond almost as dark as that one.

    seen a few red ear a guy here posted from texas "retired rr" that were even darker than that one
    I tend to think that fish is a red ear male myself .
