Default is it time to move on ?

Les called and asked if I was interested in going fishing on Friday. He was working on rebuilding his motor and said that he wanted to test the motor, so why not do some fishing while we were at it.

I met him at the ramp and started to load my gear onto his boat, but something didn't look right. The 40 hp motor that he had was now a 50 hp and it changed from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke. I must say that was one heck of a rebuild he did on that old motor. So we worked on doing a break in on his new motor.

We went to the beds that we have been working for the last couple of weeks and cast out the worms. It was a little slow at first but I boated a nice gill. I was two up on Les before his rod bent. then things got slow.

We decided to move around the lake to see if we could find some action. We spotted some shad being busted and tried to cast into them to see what was chasing them. No luck. It turned out that there were a bunch of gars in the area I think that was chasing the shad

Weather moved in and we moved out. Took 4 fish home for dinner.

Do you think I could get him to rebuild my 2 stroke Yamaha 115 into a 4 stroke 150?

    To answer your question —

Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on the lake. One lake I fish they are already done. Another one is just right now getting good and last year I was still catching fish off beds there in September. Go figure. This is in central south Texas.

I'm in Central Florida. Water temp was around 82 deg. BUT the fish were still active at the beginning of the week. So I may try one or two more times to see. But the blue crabs should be running by now too.

    What to do ??

Fried perch filets or crab cakes. The perfect dilemma. Only solution — both !

Some lakes I fish they have been done.......others it is still on. In Mid TN I have found of the 6 lakes I fish all are uniquely different. I have tried for years to correlate them concerning the spawn. It has proven impossible to do. We’ve all heard for years each body of water is different. No truer words were ever said. I have moved on from Nickajack....the thing about it is there could be another spawn going on right now but I have chosen to fish other lakes. So much water....so many fish....so little time.....as folks have said.

    Regards

Some good fish Jim, even if not many. Mike and I went this morning and it was a slow start for us too. The cracker hole gave up 3 stud gills today and no crackers. More when I post about it tomorrow. I’ve been told that some fish are working the beds until the water cools in the fall on the river. Don’t know that for sure from years past, but I’m paying attention now. We need to make a lake trip one day soon, see if my stuff works as well out there. Glad you got out and found a few.

I crab up in the NSB area. I go off of docks or the bridges. I use hand held drop nets baited with fish heads ( if I have them ) or chicken. It's an easy day out with the wife and /or friends. just neet to pay attention to the sun. Name: hand tied crab net (med).jpg
