Default looking for bluegills on Lake Monroe

I thought I would hit Lake Monroe to see if I can do any good on some "gills'. The water has been down and it has been awhile since I have been to the lake. I had heard that bite was on so I loaded up some red worms form the compost bin , grabbed the light tackle and hit the waster around 7 am.

I headed over to the flats were there are shell beds and I have had some action in the past. No one was there !! I had the place all to myself. ( don't know if this is good or bad ! )

I baited up the first rod with a red worm and tossed it out. My plan was to work 3 rods. One setting on the bottom, one floating under a bobber and the third one I was going to work along the bottom.

After setting out the third rod, I went back to the first one to adjust the tension on the line, but it was snagged but then it moved ! Fish on !! I was a nice 8 incher. I continued to work the area for awhile but I only got 2 small gills and a cat. I decided to move. On to spot #2.

This turned out to be a good decision ,The rods started to go off right a way. The best action was one the one that I was working the bottom with.

By noon it was getting hot ( 95 + ) and I had 15 fish in the box. Most were over 8 " with a lot in the 9" range and 2 that topped 10". Time to head in. Besides I don't like to clean too many fish at one time.Name: bluegills 6-3-19.jpg

That’s a good trip Jim. Was the productive rod the one laying on the bottom, or the one you were dragging along. I know the spot and it’s been busy for a while now. Always a few boats. Years back, I used to catch gills over 10” somewhat regular. Lately I’ve been catching some nice fish but can’t get one to cross that mark. One day soon maybe.
