Nice report and baits!

I hadn't been to this lake since I was a kid when my parents picniced there many decades ago. Last week was an eye opener to say the least and unlike any water I'd ever fished.
First off, shallow flats with depths generally less than 3' held large numbers of sunfish with a few small bass thrown in. Few of the fish were decent in size, but you could easily catch 8-10 fish in each school. I've never caught so many pumpkinseeds in a lake along with three other types of sunfish and I was also surprised to catch rock bass. But as usual all of these lures I tested produced:
Was it the overpopulation of sunfish that caused them to be more aggressive?
Once I investigated the flats, I worked shorelines to see where the drops were and how deep adjacent to them. Crappie and larger bass (though less than a pound) were easily caught either in shady areas or deeper near them. Too bad the wind averaged 15-20 mph the whole day or I would have stayed longer.
There's still a lot to investigate regarding structure even in the middle where the depth maxes out at 15'. Thank goodness for sonar that reveal bottom types and lures that find fish holding areas.
