I went out in search of white perch, but for some reason they weren't biting as usual. They can get into huge schools and hit on every drop, but yesterday you would mark lots of them and they were hardly reacting to anything. I think the water may have been too muddy. So I went to plan B, which was to scout for some bluegill beds. I sure found lots of them, and they would hit a red wiggler or lousisiana swamp worm as soon as it touched the water. Some of the smaller fish swallowed the hook, so they went home with me instead of feeding the turtles. I also got a couple of surprise catfish and bass.
I hope the white perch are more cooperative in a few days. That is the best eating in the lake in my opinion.

Never caught a White Perch. There aren’t any in my part of the state (that I know of). Nice table of hills!

White perch have firm, sweet meat. Dare say I think they taste better than bluegills and catfish. Lakes in the carolinas are overrun with white perch.

Well I put perch, catfish, and brim on the plate tonight. Served up with pickled okra and buttered grits, that combo sure is hard to beat. I need to hunt up a mixed bag of fish more often.

Good catch and good looking vittles, the Gills would be my favorite. Have caught white perch but never ate them, as with yellow perch.

That was a good day catching and an even better dinner. Some okra and stewed tomatoes would be a finishing touch for me.
