    Default Another cracker day 5/14/1ting

I took my shellcracker/Bluegill catching machine with me this morning. Wanda, my wife accompanied me and then proceeded to beat me at panfishing. Grin. We had a great 2.5 hr trip in spite of the N wind that was nearly whitecapping and air temp was a chilly 60 degrees.

I can’t brag on the Bobby Garland Itty Bitty Slab Slayers fished on a 1/48 oz jig head and a #6 Litewire hook. If you fish these plastics on a collarless jig and glue them to the head of the jig, then the fish or barb won’t tear them up. I only had to replace one plastic today after 2+ hours of fishing. 2 lb test line makes it fun to reel in the bigger crackers. Also, take pliers and mash the barb down and removal of the jig is a snap.

At the end of our morning, I took a ten minute scouting trip and caught a nice keeper crappie. Bonus fish today were the two yellow perch that we landed. Only one big enough to keep though.

The chilly last two nights have knocked the surface temp down a few degrees. 2 degrees from yesterday’s reading. It was 71 today and current in river was supposed to be 71,000 cfs, but I didn’t go to the river or check it on the website.

Nice catch......I’ve boated several dozen good yellow perch past 3 trips down to Nickajack. They were all over the place again today.

    Regards

Great catch, never hurts when you are out fished by the boss. Looks like the Yellow Perch are thriving in the TN river system. We are dam- locked up here, doubt they will make it up this far.

That color does seem like a good choice for gills. Congrats on your catch!
