    Default Shellcrackers and more.5/13/19

I fished 9:30 until noon today and what I mainly started out to do was scout and pick out a couple of places for some crappie condos. I thought that I would check on an old Shellcracker bed first though and then spent most of the morning fishing for these panfish.

They loved my Sweet Tea with Lemon Itty Bitty Slab Slayers fished on a 1/48 oz brown jig head. 6 keepers in 8 casts will ruin a good scouting day. Grin.

After I caught my limit of crackers, I then went on to find a spot for a condo or two. While cracker fishing, I also caught a bass, and several Bluegills. I kept the biggest gill and released everything else.

As I was looking for a place to drop a bamboo hotel, I noticed a waypoint of a hotel that I put out years ago and decided to check it out. It had fish on it and all around it. I had to throw a crappie jig and caught a 13.25” Black crappie which I released. I haven’t fished this hotel for about 5 years, but I will quite regularly now. Grin Crappie were 15 feet deep. 71,000 cfs and 73 degree surface temp.

Those are some nice looking Shellcrackers. I bought some Itty Bitty Bobby Garland Shad and Slab Slayers this winter, just forgot I had them until I saw your pics. I may try them for the Gills this week if I get a trip in. My last trip was a combo trip also, hard not to throw the Crappie Jig on those Deeper fish, you know they are there and hungry.

Stan, I was fishing with 2 lb Pline fluorocarbon coated co-polymer and I suggest that you mash the barb down on these little #6 Litewire hooks by Curtis Hobbs. I only had one fish pull off and needed pliers to get a lot of the hooks out. Good problem to have. The fish set the hook on themselves with these ultra sharp hooks.

DK, ya done good son. That was a great time on those cracker beds. I got into some redbreast Saturday that kept me busy, so I guess we both had some fun. Such a good dinner ahead from those you brought home. Thanks for taking us along.
