Prayer Request Anyone on here from North Texas (DFW area)?

Howdy folks! I live in NW Fort Worth area and would like to know if there is anyone on here that fishes for redears around here. We called them "chinquepins" in Louisiana. Fun to catch and good eating! What ever you call 'em, I'd like to know if they can be had around here. We always caught them on tiny crawfish, but I would like to start using small jigs. Any help would be appreciated.

We call them shellcrackers in Ga and hereabouts, officially they are the redear sunfish. I have no experience in TX, but am sure there must plenty; 2 states over in Az, Lake Havasu has a bunch of them grown huge on the invasive quagga mussel. They are the biggest of the non-hybrid sunfish family, aggressive, and I love them. Good luck getting on the chinquapins! That's a new one on me.

We call them shellcrackers in SoCal, also. The quagga mussel is part of the equation (@LH) - the crawdads are eating them up - and the REs eat up the crawdads. My buddy like to use 3" crawdads for bait.
    Good luck on your quest.

i know one spot up by you that has some that go over a lb and its the only spot i know in the dfw area .
its about a goat trail to get to it and not well known by most . it does have a boat ramp and for sure has BIG red ear .
i might tell you in a pm if you want to give it a go , its remote though and full of timber and really large mean black bass
the interesting part is has a few really stupid large black nosed crappie in it as well but you wont likely ketch one .
you wont be on numbers of fish in there but if you find some they will be toads for sure .
