    Default Havasu Lake trip questions

After reading about Havasu and the truly off the charts redear sunfish it is pumping out, I'm considering a trip out there next April.

A couple of questions for those of you who have fished the lake. Are there reasonable accommodations nearby? Do I need a guide, or can I expect to stumble upon them using years of experience here in Kentucky? What is the very best window to schedule this trip for?? April full moon, or May full moon?

Should I drive from Western Kentucky or just fly out there from Nashville or Louisville? Where would i fly into? Do I get a California or Arizona fishing license? Thanks!!

I can't speak to if you need a guide but as far as accommodations I would check airbnb. I was out there beginning of March and found a place about 5 miles from the lake for under $40 a night. There was plenty of room for my boat and a place to plug it in. It was a little studio type thing which was perfect for me. The lake is big, and pretty clear so if you are not used to that kind of fishing maybe it is worth a guide?

Are there reasonable accommodations nearby? Havasu City (north side) has hotels - motels - boat rentals. You can fly into Las Vegas, rent car - drive down. The south side of the lake - we stay at Havasu Springs, retirement community, (rent room above restaurant). Or we stay in Parker - Bluewater casino. You can fly into Palm Springs and drive but that might be really expensive. It's a 4 hour drive from Riverside. There is lots of camping and overnight fishing.
Don't think you need a guide - can't hurt. There's a bass shop at Havasu City that has an excellent map and tons of info/guides. They aren't interested in the panfish.
You want to be there right now - this is the prime week. We caught big fish in the middle of May. And the fall bite is good too. The deal breaker is the weather - you have to watch the wind - and during the summer it's the heat.
That Airbnb sounds like a great deal.

Either license is recognized on both sides of Az & Ca.
If you drive out you can shore fish the Parker dam side, bring a float tube. Come out to LP for some CNBGs also.

Jungle Jim is flying into Ontario (LA is cheaper but a pain to drive there) and we'll fish LP and maybe LH for 2days.

September/October are good but you have to fish deeper - you need a boat or a float tube. Water is super clear - more likely to catch hybrids. Down by Parker dam there is good shore fishing. I'm not familiar with any other shore access. Bottom fishing down to 21 FOW.
