Awesome news on the Yellow Braid. I do like it a lot, even spooled some 4lb up on the 7.4 Corto and that combination will flat get some fish out of the brush or from under a dock lift real quick. It will fade some, as expected but it will stay limp with use. The 3lb I have been using about a year had its first tangle on the spool from a loop reeled into the line. For one issue in a years time, I am pleased. My plans today are to try to pick the loop out then reverse the line on my spool to get even more life out of it.Originally Posted by Alphahawk
On a different note, the pink high dollar Sunline is not what I expected. Just too fine, and absolutely no abrasion resistance. I have it on the 6.10 Corto, and with a 1g jig head it will flat outcast anything out there. However, and this is a big one, the line just floats down to the surface 2-3 seconds after the jig hits. If windy, it blows with the wind and creates a big arc. If you are anywhere near a limb, dock cable or beam, the line will be over or in it the majority of the time. If the Japanese use this line for casting into the ocean or an area trout pond, I understand the usage, but for E TN crappie fishing in the Spring, not suited. Another big but, I am not using a leader. This will have to change come Gill time. I bought this line for Gills, and they are moving shallow as I type, but where they set up shop on my area lakes I would spend more time getting my baits away from the squirrels and into the drink. On my weeks list, I am going to try some knots for this human hair sized line, and I will report back.
Glad you like the line, I have two reels spooled with it for the upcoming summer season, and it may be three if I cannot get the Sunline in line!

Do you guys not like the Sunline Troutist wild? I've been using it here lately and it's pretty sweet stuff. Matter of fact, I just ordered two new spools of it from Chris Stewart this morning. Pretty good stuff if you ask me.

The 4lb Unitaka Braid on the Corto got them going the right direction. Would you pitch the 2.3Lb Ester in there? I did not even throw the Sunline around much visible structure due to the abrasive nature. It was breaking near the jig, so a leader will definitely help. Maybe I am just trying to make something work that is not made for that purpose, putting a square peg in a round hole type thing. Go back to mono, don’t like the stretch, and not much luck with fluorocarbon either. I put the time in, fished hard last 2 out of 3 days and boated a ton of fish so I have the experience. It’s a fun road, a bit expensive trial and error though. I will post a few more line pics on here later for everyone’s reference, this is a great place for learning.

Is there a consensus "Do It All" type line for general bream/crappie/small bass fishing? I won't have multiple reels and I will generally be banking fishing from local/neighborhood ponds.

I REALLY like the Unitaka PE as well. It may not be expensive JDM PE line but it sure works good to me. It does fade over time and I noticed that it leaves a yellowish residue on some of the rod guides (easily wipes off).These 3 fish yesterday, at different times, came from this snag you see in the background.

Here are a couple pics of the Unitaka Braid, 3 and 4lb. The first picture is of the 4lb new and after only one trip. (New on spool and used once on reel)

And next is a picture of the 1 year old 3lb after catching a ton of all species of FW fish that can be caught in E TN and VA.

The tangle is still in there, will work on that later, and pulled off you can see the color of the 1yr old unused deep in the spool line.

It will stain. It will fade to a lighter color, but I do like it better than Nanofil or Fireline. It breaks at the strength it says it will, stays limp, and does not sing in the rod guides like some braid can do. The 4lb did straighten a LW hook on a 1/32 jig head when snagged most of the time. It has a little bit heavier SG than mono and is much more supple than fluorocarbon. If you try it I hope you like it, now to that bird’s nest.

Start with 2 or 4 lb SOS Trout Magnet line if you prefer mono. If you lean towards or think you might want to try braid, try 2lb Nanofil, Fireline Crystal or Suffix Nanobraid. Run back through this sticky to see pros and cons of above mentioned lines. The lines that are readily available are the best place to start. I like to experiment, research, and read about different fishing gear, lines are no exception. Good luck on your journey, and report back what you find. This forum is a great platform for information. I read back through the archives on a regular basis.

Another vote for the above mentioned lines. I haven’t tried and SOS cuz I’m stuck on Stren crappie hi vis, but plan on ordering some just for the education if nothing else. Love the good traits of the 2lb Nanofil and hate the bad traits like anyone else. I don’t think it’s a good choice for bank fishing but I haven’t done that for a long time. When you try some and find a favorite, let us know which one and why. We all learn from one another.
