Neither Sunline nor Varivas give the specific gravity of their ester line. However, the specific gravity of all ester lines is going be very nearly the same. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference (assuming the line diameters are the same). The diameter of the Sunline Ester I have in stock is .117mm, the same as the 2.3# test Varivas.

I know Shimano lists their ester with a 1.38 specific gravity. FC is higher than that. Ester certainly gets a micro jig down far quicker than nylon. You’re selling I believe it is the 2.5# test. I see that it comes in 3# test also. If that line is made to be more supple that might be a game changer. Only way to know is order some and fish with it.....which I will probably do.

Still having trouble with break offs on large fish on the initial bite and hook set. I am not setting the hook hard at all, have broke myself from that with the new UL JDM rods but when a large fish makes that first run they are continuing on to greener pastures with my bait without me even turning them. I went to the shock leader and had some success but tonight the leader knot failed. I used the 5 turn Surgeons knot. The learning curve I thought would be easier. I am using 2lb Nanofil with the Phantom Fluorocarbon 3lb leader. Knot slipping? Jig heads and plastic baits are cheap but fun and not frustration is why I fish.

If the knot is not cinched down exactly right.....and using those fine diameter lines makes it even more critical.....it will break. That is why I spent a whole day getting it down. I’m assuming you were using an Ajing rod? Which gives you less forgiveness with the stiffness of the rod. I’ve caught a ton of 21 inch Smallies with the same line setup you are using with a Yamaga Blanks Blue Current TZ Ajing rod. I keep a loose drag using supper lines. Many have made fun of me for doing that but break offs for me are rare. Happy you’re tying into some fish.....I’m still searching for a place to be able to fish....LOL.

Lefty Kreh, the late, great fly fisherman and knot guru said that a knot will always slip before it breaks.

I'm still primarily a mono guy. IMO, one advantage of mono is that it's easy to tie good knots in it. With other materials (particularly something like Nanofil), your knots have to be perfect.

There were some bruisers stacked up in this culvert, a Bass guy came up in a boat and whacked two and hauled them off to be weighed and measured, glad I got over that years ago. My drag is set loose, just loosing many more fish than I ever have. After one retie I just tied directly to the jig, as water clarity was pretty much zero. I am just learning this and bank fishing for a couple hours each evening is giving me the time to learn and experiment. I purchased a JDM braid (not Nanofil) that feels less slick and will be trying it out more as I can. Will be tying my knots more at home to practice. Just too many options and not enough time to try them all.

Nice catch on UL tackle. When I first started using light line about 13 years back I wanted to give up. I fished 2.5 months straight, 5 days a week catching white bass in the jumps...in the 14-16 inch range. I would get tired of losing fish and constantly switch back and forth between 2# test and 6# test. When I finally committed to 2# test all the time I got it down. White bass were a great fish to learn on. When I got my first ajing rod there was another learning process. While great rods there is just no forgiveness using 2# test when you hook a bigger fish using a super line. This past summer I had been catching a lot of KY bass on the Fine Tail Banshee using the 2# test ester. One day I took an ajing rod and first cast....first fish, I broke off....then I adjusted. Fishing a super line on an ajing rod can be tough....but is also very rewarding.

How would these lines fish if you use a float if needed?
