    I came across this reel. DIGITAKA! - Japan Fishing Tackle Store

    Is this the same as the US version, or is it a JDM reel?

    As far as I could tell, it's the same as the USA version, except the spool. No jdm 1000 sized spool. The jdm version also has red accents on the spool. I have six of the USA 1000 versions, and have just ordered a couple of jdm shallow 2000 spools to use with them.

    The Tatula is a good looking reel. Lots Bass guys use the larger versions.

    I use mine year round. When open water season is over, they go on my ice rods. In two years of use the only issue I had was the bail on one got sticky. Just cleaned and lubed it, been good since. I did install carbon drag washers and the extra bearings into them this year. The carbon washers seemed to work a little better in the colder weather.

    Any thoughts on either of these potential combos?

    S = Shallow

    P = Power Gear

    I would go with the 1000 for your choice of rod and line.

    You might want to check out the Daiwa Caldia LT too, it has great reviews at a good price point.

    Thanks for the information! Very helpful!

    What do you think would pair better with the Finetail Area UL... the Gekkabijin or the Caldia?

    Either reel in 1000 size should pair up well.

    The Caldia is slightly lighter due to its Zaion body, a woven carbon resin. This of course increases its price slightly over the Gekkabijin.

    I've considered getting a display model from Digitaka ("S class"). How was your experience? Is the reel in a top-notch shape?

    When you get one of those it will be just as they advertised it. As you can see if you want one and it is not sold better jump.....they don't hang around long.
