Only the first run of the Daiwa Luvias lt is made in Japan. The rest will be made in China.

Dang. I was about to pounce on another Luvias, but I will have to pass on China made one.

Also according to Jun Sonoda of JapanTackle.

I don't really think Daiwa's sales of Luvias will be affected that much. It's still a great little reel for $250, even if it is made in China. Being made in Japan was certainly the icing on the cake.

    Some observations:

The Chinese and Japanese Luvias FC LT2000S have the same set of barcodes. That makes sense, because they were both made for JDM.

The Chinese and Japanese Luvias FC LT2000S have the same QC labels on their reel feet. This is something I did not expect. Does it mean they were inspected at the same facility? The email from Asian Portal seems to suggest the same.

In any case, both reels seem to have identical freeplays in their handle knobs and are overall indistinguishable during reeling or upon inspection, with the exception of the glaring "Made in ..." label.

Ballistic FW LT1000 or the new 2020 Luvias LT2000, if you had to pick one?

I’m mulling over a second JDM rig, and these two seem well reviewed.

For my needs I chose the Luvias LT2000 for its magseal feature. I fish in waders, tube and kayak and my rigs often take a dunking so magseal is important. The Luvias is saltwater rated obviously.

Luvias and Ballistick FW can be had for the same cost delivered, but the Luvias will be of Chinese origin, just like the Ballistick. It will be quite difficult to find Luvias of Japanese origin right now. Technically, the Luvias is a higher end model and is also just a bit lighter. Magseal is a very important feature for me as I use all my Luvias in saltwater regularly.

Question about spool size interchangeability among the Daiwa LT reels: I accidentally bought the SLP LP type-alpha 2500S spool, instead of the 2000S size I intended to buy. It is from Japan, so I can't send it back. I was going to use the spool on my Tatula LT 1000D in order to both get a shallow spool, and a slightly longer cast. Well, the 2500 size seems to fit fine, so I am planning to spool it up and go fishing. Weight with 2500S spool is 167 g.

The spool did NOT fit well on a Regal LT 2000D, it had quite a wobble, and the inside of the base of the spool looked different than the Tatula, so I don't think it fits these cheaper reels. Doesn't make sense to do this anyway, because the spool costs more than the reel, but it seems to sit fine on the Tatula.

EDIT: the bail barely rubs the spool if you open it at the lowest travel of the bail.

You’re really talking apples and oranges here. The Luvias does not come in a 1000 series. The reel ratios are slightly different. If you can find a “Made in Japan” Luvias and you are happy with a 2000 series reel I would get the Luvias. The FW 1000 spools will fit the Luvias. The Luvias has a longer handle than the FW 1000.....to some folks that matters. I am on my 3rd generation of “Made in Japan” Luvias reels. Had they come out with a 1000 series on the new model I would have bought 4 but instead bought 4 of the FW 1000 reels at a great price. I am very happy with both reels but the Luvias is a finer machined reel. I also need to add the FW is a low inertia reel.....the Luvias is as smooth as silk but it is not a low inertia reel.

    Regards
