Is the smallest President reel a decent mate for most of these JDM rods or do I need something more?? Thanks, Troy
It will do fine. I’ve owned Presidents.....XT’s......Patriarch reels....Shimano and Daiwa US market reels. What I found when I upgraded to all “Made in Japan” JDM reels is they are much smoother.....they last a lot longer, I much prefer shallow spool reels, and if one is a cast and retrieve guy....fishing 5 days a week....those US market reels do not hold up over time. Now I’m sure someone will say they have had so and so reel for 10 years and no problem. Well I would ask them if they fished 5 days a week....opening and closing a bail well over a thousand times a day. How many times did they do a complete breakdown and maintenance on the reel? In my talks with the Daiwa and Shimano service centers they advised me, for as much as I fished, to have my reels serviced 4 times a year. Well a new one would only cost say 70 bucks so I just replaced the reel after a year with a new one. Only when I stepped up to Shimano Stradic did the reel hold up longer and while I did not have it serviced 4 times a year I did it 2, sometimes 3 times a year. But even then the reel was subject to need more than a service after a couple of years, and more often than not Shimano would send me a brand new reel when I would send it in for maintenance after a year or so. I bought a 2012 Daiwa Luvias over 5 years ago and intentionally have not performed any maintenance at all on it. It as smooth as the day I took it out of the box. I wanted to see just how long it would hold up. Even though it is working fine I will send it in after this summer to have a complete service done on it. Many can break down a reel and service it themselves but modem spinning reels have a ton of tiny parts and I long ago quit doing it myself. I have to say for what Daiwa and Shimano charge for a complete service is a good deal.....I think it is now 25 bucks.

No they will not. But there are many other places who do will and are certified by Shimano and Daiwa. My Daiwa reels all have Mag Seal so they need to be serviced by someone who has the Daiwa oil. But those reels can be serviced by anyone and one can use the normal oil in place of the Mag Seal oil. But sticking with Mag Seal gives you a longer usage range before servicing is required. I’m very impressed with the Mag Seal reels.

This high water is killing me... and my wallet... good sale on tacklewarehouse and now a JDM Daiwa Exist 2003h is heading my way... shew...
Congratulations on the reel, I have a new Luvias on the work bench waiting on some line, haven’t decided on which one yet. Our waters have cooled off and are receding fast, certainly confusing the fish. TVA needs the storage space for future Spring rains but it is hard on the fish and fishermen.
