There is a Bous drag checker available on Amazon with free 2 day shipping. Don't know if it's the same model as you ordered.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah I saw that....but the model I’m getting is the 2001.......it’s max is 1kg. They make a 1kg.....3kg......5kg and a 15 kg. Since nearly 100 percent of my fishing is done with 2 pound test line I went with the 2001 model. Sometimes Amazon will have a JDM item that is at same or lower price than you can get directly out of Japan......but it is rare.

    Regards

I love the Luvias 1003 I bought, so smooth and torquey, and want another in the 2000 size for a med-light 6' rod I like to throw small (1/32 oz) BG jigs for crappie with, and maybe finesse bass. I find I can cast farther with the bigger diameter spool of the 2000 and it isn't much heavier. I've seen these around $220 on ebay or JDM dealers, but didn't find any on any BF or cyber Mon sale. Still looking for a deal.

They are great reels. It is probably due for a refresh. Curious to see what the newer model will be like.

Generally the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are more of an American based sale thing and as far as I know the Luvias has always been a strictly JDM marketed item and never has been sold through as an American marketed item.

Perhaps if E-BAY runs one of their site wide 20% off sales then maybe a dealer on there with the discount could give a slight break but the only way you will probably see a big deal is if a new '19 model Luvias was introduced and the dealers were getting rid of the existing stock of the leftover older models.

Bad part about trying to wait for that is the "new" model could carry a fair price increase over the current models depending on the newer features and the old models may already be sold in the size you want with no leftover inventory to run close out prices on.

Good luck to your quest getting you another one though.

Default JDM reels relating to panfish

Been my experience that one has a very small window to get a price break on a JDM reel when new models appear. The Japanese do have sales at Christmas.....some years being better than others. I have also learned when they have a sale, and you see the price reduced considerably......and you want it....you better hit buy. A couple of years back my nephew and I cleaned up when Plat had a 20 percent off for all Major Craft Rods. I was smart enough to get my MegaBass ShoreLuck Limited at a huge discount. However a couple of Christmas ago I was not so smart and did not buy a Dreams Yume Aji Special when it was discounted by half down to $225 from $452. My wife kept telling me to buy and I did not. I have checked on that rod everyday since then.....and it has never been on sale again....lesson learned.

    Regards

The Diawa Exist is closer in overall size to my president 20 series which is a very small ultra light reel, very slightly larger but more in design rather than size, like just a tad longer and slightly a bit bigger in the body but overall so close. The biggest difference to the President 20 series is the diameter of the rotor is larger on the Diawa but again the main thing is the spool difference, the inner spool diameter is about the diameter of the Pflueger spool on the outer lip but yet is very shallow and longer than the Pflueger spool.

This is exactly what pushed me to jump into the JDM reels is that shallow spool design. The Exist rotor and spool compares more size wise to one of my Pflueger Supreme 2500 series reel with the body size much closer to the smaller 20 size president.

Gives me the line coil size of the 2500 reel with the line capacity, overall size and weight roughly of the really small reel.

Honestly it is nice, but I will be honest if Pflueger would make a Supreme with the small President body size and the rotor and the shallow spool based on the supreme 2500 size with the same quality and smoothness of the currently available Supreme reels I would probably own nothing else.

I do not fish in salt water and the majority of fish species I target are less than 3 lbs and the Pflueger reels have been awesome for me over a number of years with zero failures thus far and at the price points for these reels giving the performance they do these reels are unmatched.

Perhaps if I were stressing the reels with larger heavier fish on a regular basis maybe again things or opinions would be different.

To be honest I have not and will not fish the new Exist reel until spring, and it is possible that the line lay on the spool will superior and maybe line twist will be less and that will influence my future decisions also.

Currently though the JDM shallow spool design will keep me to continue to start leaning towards the JDM reels on true small 1000 size reel setups.

On larger 2500 set ups then I will probably just continue using the Pfluegers and use a heavier line as a backing on the spool to keep from wasting the small diameter light lines.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase the JDM Daiwa 18 Caldia LT 1000S-P or the 2000S to match with an Abu Garcia Mass Beat
Extreme 6'2" UL because I like the over all size of my pflueger 25 surpreme and wanted to keep that size reel.
If you cast it they will come.

Where a JDM “Made in Japan” reel really shines is in smoothness and long term reliability. I have owned the bottom of the Pflueger reels all the way up to the Patriarch. The low end Shimano up through the Stradic. Fishing 3-5 days a week 365 a year they did not hold up. When I got into JDM reels I gave them all away. I could be wrong but after you fish the Exist I don’t think you will want to go back to a Pflueger.....but as I said I may be wrong. I have 2 nephews that bought Luvias and Certate and their Stradic Ci4’s are now up in the closet. I have put off purchasing an Exist because I know once I step up to that reel I will not want to fish my Certate and Luvias models. This is the problem with buying JDM gear.....when you step up to that next level of gear you don’t want to go back down.....LOL. I was warned about this by several people before I ever got into this....I did not believe them. Well they were correct. But I know I can’t but a half dozen Exist reels so I guess just 1...maybe 2 will have to do.....LOL. I’m really anxious to hear how the Exist fishes for you. Why the USA market does not sell shallow spool reels for UL angling is beyond me.
