Alphahawk I am interested in what you think about your new reels. Congrats on the new purchase. I did see that all black reel you were talking about and think it looks awesome. Just not sure the best place to purchase one.

Thanks....will post an initial impression when I get them. The best place I’ve seen....so far.....to purchase the Day Sprout is Japan Lure Shop. I was going to contact Digitaka to see if they could get me one but found the Ballistic at a great price on eBay, and while the all black color looks good I will be saving about 100 bucks for same reel mechanically.....after I install bearings and knob.

    Regards

Alphahawk, are there any store fronts on ebay you trust to order through or do you feel safer sticking with the sites like plat and digitaka?

Randy, are they still making the smallest reel, the 500 series? I've always been fond of the smallest spinning reel for panfishing.

I have no issues at all ordering gear off of ebay. The majority of the time....as to reels......Digitaka will be the lowest price anywhere. But that is not always the case. These 4 reels I have coming I got them for 50 dollars less than the Digitaka price for each reel from an ebay seller out of Japan. Most of the time though on ebay the sellers put a large premium on an item vs the Japanese web-stores. I just do my research to find the best prices from ebay, reputable Japanese web stores and I also check out Finesse Fishing. I spend a lot lot time researching all the gear I purchase....probably too much time....LOL.

Yes they do. I do not know of any Daiwa reels in the 500 size but Shimano still makes a few.

Ok...got the Daiwa FW LT 1000S-P reels in today. I went ahead and did the bearing upgrades. First let's talk about what this reel is not. It is not MagSealed so any reel guy can work on it. It is not "Made in Japan". It is not the same level as a Daiwa Presso Limited. It does not come with a reel pouch. This reel is a true super finesse reel taking in only 23.3 inches of line per handle turn....a 4.8 ratio. After my bearing mods it weighs in at 158 grams....which is light. It is a smooth as silk with no wobble and it is extremely rigid with no flex in the reel seat and neck. It has the same knob as the Presso Limited and has a 40mm handle. I like it. It will be excellent with ester lines and the Troutist Area line also. I have a total of $247 in this reel. While I prefer my reels to be "Made in Japan" I took a chance on this reel...and I'm glad I did. The reel delivered was $216. Digitaka sells this reel for $265. A tuning kit is around $32 delivered and a Daiwa Zaion knob...if one has to have one....can be thrown in when you order something from Plat for $23. Of course I have not fished it yet but will give a report when I do. Plat has the new 2020 Luvias for sale at around $335 delivered. I am sure I will get one sooner or later but there is not a 1000 series in the 2020 lineup. Which means there is no 4.8 ratio Luvias. I am super excited to now have 4 low speed reels. If you can find one at the $216 price point I highly suggest getting one.

    Regards

Is Daiwa phasing out the 1000 series Reels? The new Certate's no longer have 1000 or 2000 series...
