How are you guys finding these deals? Do the sites email you of upcoming sales or is it just a hit or miss kind of thing? I am always a day late and and dollar short on deals.

I get the news letter from Plat.....but I also check the site darn near everyday. About 6 years back I learned a good lesson about Japanese sales. First.....they have real sales and if you see one and want it it is best to buy right then. Five years back Plat had a Dreams Yume rod on sale for 250 bucks....normally sold for 500 dollars. I kept putting off buying it even though my wife kept urging me to get it. I woke up one morning and decided to make the purchase....the sale was over. I have checked on that rod almost everyday since then and it has never been back on sale. I have tried to put a formula together on how they may put something on sale....such as maybe a reel is being updated....but that is not necessarily the case. The best time for sales are at Christmas. I have always wondered where their stock of a current reels go to when an upgraded model comes out. I have no clue. I have seen the old model of a reel selling at normal price and the next day the new model is out and the older models are nowhere on the site.

    Regards

I was hoping to snag a few luvias at a cheaper price when and if a new model comes out but I guess they don’t work like us companies... got my presso today and it is a thing of beauty... I can’t tell a ton of difference between the exist and the presso... now I have 4 JDM reels and 3 JDM rods *shakes head*... hopefully I will resist the urge but might look into a rod for trout spoons...

With 4 JDM rods and reels, I am still trying to pair rods with lines according to action and lb test for the applications encountered. Fun but frustrating, as most of my fishing from the boat is structure oriented (read brush and bushes here). Light lines equals frequent re-ties, not fun with limited time on the water in the evenings. The reels have been flawless, no complaints from performance but all are less than 1 year old. Time will tell, but I hope to not make anymore major purchases this year.

Diawa Presso LTD locked down and loaded up with a new 3lb Ester Line. A trip for Gills next week is hopeful and planned.

Very nice. Be interesting to hear how you find the line compared to the Varivas Ester. I have a spool but won’t be putting it on until probably mid July or so....after the hip replacement. Hoping that line will give me a little more power for fighting the Spots come July August. Going to use the Corto next chance I get on the water to try and pull some Gills up out of 30 feet of water using the Varivas Ester.

    Regards

With the Full moon on the 18th the Gills should be shallow here tending beds again. This cool weekend with intermittent rain and clouds should keep the water temperatures in the low 80’s, setting up another wave of spawners. I caught some small fish last week on the Corto, switched the Luvias over to it, with the Varivas nylon and had a lot of fun with the juvenile males and females that are always around docks and shallow bushes. Funny thing though they would not hit the Sowbug Trout Magnet, had to switch over to the Green with Red Flake with the Berkeley Wax Worm. Some days they just surprise me what they want to eat?
