I broke the only fly rod I had.....actually it was 47 years ago. My uncle had given me an Abercrombie & Fitch split bamboo....yeah I know....sick about it now...back then was too young and stupid to know what I had. I was really into bass fishing back then and what ever money I came up with went to bass gear.

    Regards

I have to tell you Ketchn being in Yellowstone is really special. I can only imagine fishing there. We are going back maybe next year.....but for sure within 2 years. I used to be into photography 45 years ago but got rid of all my SLR cameras. We are already looking at a good camera to take on our next trip. I saw 6 grizzlies and all I had was this iPhone. Not to mention elk....moose and tons of buffalo......and this time I will fish.

    Regards

Those JDM rods cost more than my boat! LOL, but I enjoy reading your post. I do own 3 bamboo fly rods, in with I us regularly.

On my trip last year, we saw everything but grizzlies -- and I was glad of that! We were hiking and wading for trout. I knew that the chance of coming across a bear was small, but there was still an eerie feeling along some of those trails.

We didn't get to go this year, but hope to go back next year.

Bamboo is not cheap. A good bamboo rod can sell for several thousand dollars -- ten times what I paid for my JDM rod.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah the JDM road is not for everybody. I was warned before I got into buying them that it could become a bad habit. Well that it has. I figure I am going to try out around 30 more or so rods before I get too old or I’m no longer in this world.....God willing I’ll live long enough to try out that many more.

    Regards

When I was there an elk guide was killed by 2 grizzlies and a fisherman was injured by a grizzly. Out of the grizzlies I saw only 1 was in the park....the other 5 were halfway between the east park entrance and Cody, Wyoming. In talking with the locals around they say the grizzly population has gotten quite large....which is different than what the Yellowstone folks say. I saw 2 cubs with a mother by a stream......and my thoughts were “What if they had come upon me while fishing”. One outfitter there says he sees as many as 11 in one day in his camps and he knows they tolerate him....but he is aware that any day that could change.

    Regards
