    Default E. Oregon bluegill

Late summer is my favorite time to target bluegill on Brownlee Reservoir. They school up and really start feeding. Catching them on micro light tackle I'm as happy as a kid in a candy store. Love to fry up a bunch of those firm, sweet fillets.
Yesterday's catch, the big pile of fillets is all bluegill.

Beautiful bunch of fish! I don't know how it is in Oregon, but when I lived in the Napa Valley area as a kid (almost 50 years ago!), nobody fished for them. All the attention was on trout, steelhead, and bass. My father and I pretty much had crappie and bluegill all to ourselves and they were big and abundant.

Oregon is pretty much the same except for this reservoir. Brownlee has the best warm water fishing in the Pacific North West. When we have a strong year class of crappie we see heavy fishing pressure as there are no limits on any of our warm water fish except bass. When that year class of crappie gets fewer and harder to catch fishing pressure slacks way off. But the bluegill go pretty much unnoticed.
