Definitely a Longear !! It's what my Grandpa used to call a "Redbelly". Used to catch them quite often at Herrington Lake, usually on crickets or "horseweed worms" (stalk borer larvae).
On a day when I was giving the crappie a break, doing a little wading in the creek, I hauled in this little guy. Not sure but think it’s a longear with his “gimme some” colors on. Please correct me if I’ve got that wrong.

That is a beautiful fish. We do not have many in our lakes, wish we did.
