I have the same St Croix and string it with 4lb Nanofil. So far so good, used it through gill season and currently snatching Crappie out of deep water with it. Stuck a few large whisker fish and some big ole drum and it has performed well. The only drawback I have found is that being a 1 pc rod it does not travel well. I am still thinking about a JDM rod, in 2 piece of course due to the this very reason. My daughter lives on a small neighborhood lake that has a good population of small panfish. UL equipment has become my focus this year and I have enjoyed the learning curve.

I would put my 2-piece JDM rod up against any 1-piece Loomis. (And I own five 1-piece Loomis rods.)

Ferrules are so good today, I don't think it matters much among rods of similar quality. Sure, a cheap 2-piece will not match a Loomis in sensitivity -- but a good one will.

I was thinking the same thing. They fixed the 2 piece rods issue years ago.

I’ve been fishing St Croix rods for a couple of years and this year moved up to an St Croix Avid-X 7’ 2 piece ml fast action rod. It’s made this years catch larger and enjoyable!
