The marketing people also call $380 fly rods entry level. The fly rods I used didn't even make entry level, but they did what I wanted them to do, and did it efficiently.

My first Majorcraft arrived today in just six days. Going on a trout fishing/camping trip Sunday morning and it's making the trip. Have a Patriarch reel on it with 2lb and made some casts out in the yard throwing a 1/64. Distance was incredible and I guess the presentation was good as well because a couple of sparrows tried to eat the jig while I was reeling it back.

Have built 100+ panfish rods in last 10 yrs, no breakage and i don't pay over $30.00 for a blank, $10.00 for guides and under a $1.00 each for cork rings! Bet i'm having more fun than the guys worried about breaking those HIGH PRICED RODS which seem to be available all over E-Bay! Just sayin!

Well I buy mine out of Japan...but you can by many of the same off eBay.....doesn’t make them any less real. More fun than me....I don’t think so. I’ve bought about 30 in the past 5 years...figure I’ve got about 10 more good years to collect another 40 or so.....if one breaks I replace it...just that simple “Just sayin”

    HW - Huh???

NUBSTER - I'd take that bet.
Started wrapping rods in the mid 80's - specifically UL rods and saltwater rods. Recently I sold off all the Kencor rods & blanks, except one, that I own. Retired my Gloomis, St. Croix, Phenix UL rods to fish with JDM rods. You can not come close to replicating what the JDM rods (even the lower end rods) do with a $30 blank & $10 guide set. Can you wrap a 7' rod that weighs 3ozs? The rod blanks (and some of the guides) aren't even sold in the US. Again, the difference between a fiddle and a violin - both can make beautiful music....
Been fishing JDM for over 3 years now - own >30 - and have broke one rod, the tip, and it was my fault. I don't worry about breakage and have caught a lot of big fish using them. Do you have to have one - no. Will you catch more fish - maybe. Does it add to the experience - absolutely! It's a tool, only as good as the user.
Like Randy - just trying to enlighten people on something different - maybe a better way to enjoy the sport...
