Default area style JDM rods today @LP 07 11 18

JDM rods used today are more for stream fishing or chasing trout. The fish today quickly reminded me why I don't use this style much.. Too mushy - hard to set the hook (glad I was using Lil Nasty hooks) - and put pressure on the fish. These fish need to get their heads turned up in a hurry or they will go to the trees.

    Started with an 11" fish

Looks like tacos to me! I haven't been able to buy a bite from more than a couple keeper gills in two weeks.

Nice fish as usual......you have the older model of the Fine Tail....at least I think the green one is the Fine Tail.....a nice rod. Don’t know what got in their head on the new design. Yeah Area Rods aren’t what one wants when they need to turn the head of a larger fish for sure.

I'm assuming they're soft action. What kind of baits are the Japanese throwing with them?

Yeah they are much softer than say an Ajing rod but they’re not soft like most USA market UL rods. The Japanese use Area Trout Rods mostly to throw trout spoons....they don’t use spinner baits. If I was catching 11 inch copper nose I’d be using my Blue Current TZ Ajing rod. But I don’t have any of those around. Sonny may have a different take on the action of the area rods. The Japanese have 1000’s of pay trout lakes...thus the term “Area”......that those area rods are designed for...no cover...no current. Their stream trout rods are designed to handle much larger fish and the current. Chris over at finessefishing.com articulates it much better than me. https://www.finesse-fishing.com/jdm-spinning-rods.html

    That's an important distinction. Thanks.

Good fish Sonny. Glad to fix my own breakfast these days but hope I can get out soon. I dance when I get any over 9”.
