Default Spent a few hours with my Daiwa Procyon

Got to throw some Trout Magnets for two to three hours today . 6’ Daiwa Procyon UL with a Shimano Sahara 500 and 2# P-Line .
Almost an hour fishing Big Lazer PFA gave up four , three gillls and one small warmouth .
Then when I got home I spent just under two hours at our town pond and caught two gills and a small bass . Tough bank fishing this time of the year . Kirby

Good catch Kirby. I also got a new 6’ up rod recently and love catching the Warmouth and gills. I’m sure mine isn’t near what you show there but I’m having fun with it. Love throwing the little stuff.

This Daiwa Procyon is from the second line from Daiwa named Procyon. They’ve been replaced by a newer version that doesn’t include any UL rods . Shame . Rod was reasonable, IIRC , around $80 . I have a couple 7 footers in the black Procyon that preceded these . They’re nice rods . I use them for micro jig and float fishing .
Occasionally Daiwa will put out a line of rods with an UL . I give them all a try that are under $100 . Most are under $50 .
The 5’6” Triforce is a great little rod for throwing weightless worms or wacky worm fishing with 3” Senko s . $30-$40 . But they’re getting hard to find . .
Daiwa and St Croix are the best , easily available UL’s out there IMO .

Nice catch with the artificial offerings , Trout Magnets have found a place in my UL tackle rotation this year. Dab a little Slab Sauce on them and hang on. The new St Croix I bought this year is slowly becoming my favorite rod in the arsenal. I am doing a little deep vertical jigging with it now that it has gotten hot, and so far no complaints. Coupled with braid, the sensitivity is great. The Diawa rod looks nice also. The California Dude has caught my attention with a JDM Diawa UL.

Thanks for the UL products info. Good thread.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.

Broke out my black 7’ Daiwa Procyon UL . Paired with a Shimano Symetre 500 with 2# Visious . Paid a visit to a friends property who lives on a nice size pond . The only problem is he has about 200 feet of shore located in the shallow upper end of the pond . Though I might catch a couple gills , but decent size crappie and hooked a jack (chain pickerel) . The jack I got all the way in , but he flopped and cut or broke my line as I was trying to slide him up a sloped bank to get a hand on him .
Fished for over an hour , until I lost my shade , and never got another bite .
Ive not been fishing much lately . Been caught up shooting my rimfire . It feels good to get back out there .
I need to clean out my boat and get it ready for a few trips . Gillchaser

I love my St Croix UL’s . The Panfish and Trout Series are nice rods . They don’t seem as soft as my Triumphs , Avids , and Premiers . Id like to try one of the JDM rods also . Wouldn’t mind trying a Loomis Panfish too. Gillchaser

    JDM > Loomis

I have several Loomis rods, and they're all nice. My JDM rod beats them all, though.
