    I would like nothing better. Not having a vacation last year I could seriously do with a road trip.

    Just want to thank you and Randy for all the information it really helped me out. I just order the Daiwa GEKKABIJIN 76UL-S Ultra Light 7'6" too. What reel did you pair it with?
    If you cast it they will come.

    Back to this Diawa rod. What does the S stand for? At 7.6, does the rod have the backbone to pull a Crappie out of deep brushpiles (20+ft) while vertical jigging? I have a 7 St Croix that I have just started fishing deep with. It is sensitive, but with a solid tip and an extra half foot would this rod (Diawa) perform better. The price seems fair and in line with the available rods here in the States.

    thnx Guys

    S = solid tip

    The CNBG in pic #7 came out of a brushpile in 27 FOW. Had to back up to pull him out and I'm using 2lb test line.

    I like the St. Croix handle (it's even kid friendly) and the action of the rod, but almost all the JDM rods are a little bit to a lot a bit more sensitive. Even some of the less expensive rods. Some butt section are longer on the JDMs which is great for fishing I'm doing right now. I'd like to get back to casting with the shorter UL rods but not here & not now for these fish.

    Maybe it's the length but these rods seem to cast a lot further then the St Croix's. I have the 7' Lite, 6'9" UL, and 6' one piece PF series.
    There are other rods that are cheaper that perform as good or better. The real problem is buying a rod you can't hold.....

    CPW - No worries, Randy knows a lot more about this stuff than I want to, lol. Matched the rod with a Pflueger Patriarch 10. it's not balanced, by much, but it's used for two handed casting anyway.... You should probably get at least a 15 or 20 series reel. I don't because they take a lot of line to fill.

    You don’t say which St Croix you have....but if it is a Panfish series the Daiwa is a much superior rod. A 7 foot St Croix Panfish weighs 3.1 ounce....the Daiwa rod weighs 3.2 ounces yet is 6 inches longer. The Daiwa rod has some serious backbone.....the butt is 10 mm diameter. The components on the Daiwa....guide frames...inserts......are superior to a St Croix Panfish. The Daiwa is rated for 1/56-1/6. The way Japanese rate Mebaru and Ajing rods is the low end rating means you can feel the resistance of a jig as light as 1/56 of an ounce.....that’s pretty impressive. If you get this rod you’re going to be blown away when you unpack it and see a solid tip that is only 7/10 of a mm in diameter. That tip is what gives the rod great sensitivity and casting distance......solid tips are excellent at working small plastics or any jig. Don’t misunderstand, the St Croix is a fine rod. But if you had both in your hand I would be shocked if you thought the St Croix was better. I don’t suggest anyone to buy or not buy JDM rods. I just try to present the facts of the build and specs of the rod. If you go over to finesse fishing website Chris has a lot of great info about these rods......he is a writer and can articulate much better than me.....plus it’s just a great English website to get info on JDM rods.

    Regards
