Default Little chunks below Pickwick Dam.

Had a productive day below Pickwick Dam today. Caught around 3 dozen chunky Gills....not the 9 inch fish I was hoping for but they had good girth. I was using a Major Craft Volkey Super Finesse Solid Series 6' 8" rod rated for 2-6# test line and 1/64-1/4 ounce jig head.....a very unique rod to have such a wide range for jig weight. The solid tip of this rod is only 7/10 mm diameter.....very sensitive. I was drop shotting a Bison colored Trout Magnet in 26 feet of water....they were on the bottom. They hit it hard and gave a great fight on 2# test line. I used the 1/4 ounce Snake n da brush weights sold by Rickie.......AKA rnvinc. This is the second year I have used these drop shot weights. I am amazed I have not lost one yet...I'm sure that will happen one day but I am very impressed by these weights.......very hard to get one hung up. I cast out and waited for it to drop then would slow retrieve back maintaining contact with bottom.....a really fun way to fish.......love the feel of the hard hit. All fish were released to fight another day. I caught these in the corner where the dam and spill gates meet. There was no wind in that corner and the heat coming off the concrete made it like an oven....yes it was hot....LOL. Life is good!

    Regards

Beautiful fish. Like other commentators, I do enjoy seeing and reading about your adventures and particularly appreciate your willingness to share your techniques. I'm hoping to have an operational boat by the fall and am looking forward to trying out some trout magnets when I do!

Thanks for the kind words. I do love to bluegill fish. But this year has not been a good one for Gills around here. Some have got into them really good but for most it has been hit and miss. Next week I am going to try the lock walls around Nickajack Dam. It is a much shorter drive for me than Pickwick.....but will still hit up Pickwick hopefully one day a week.
