How did the new combo do ? Gillchaser
I have had the itch for a new rod, and wanted to find an ultralight. There's a lot to choose from but I have no need to spend large money for the rod. Made a trip to BPS today and handled what few they had in stock. None of the $100 and over in UL as they are in Daytona and lean more toward the salt water stuff. Browning, BPS micro lite, and a few others but found nothing in a UL that I could see me fishing with. What I did decide on is a 5'6" light action Lightning Rod, a 2 piece. Hung a president 6920 on it and really liked the balance and feel of it. Fit the budget too. Now comes the frustrating part, line. They didn't carry and most of the sales staff had never heard of Nanofil. All I could do was look to the sky and ask for patience. They also knew zip about the different braids. Thank God I had read up on it some and got a spool of Power Pro Slick in 2lb size, hi vis and plan on using the 4lb clear stren for a leader for now. I think I have overfilled the spool and will probably have to take some off tomorrow when I get on the water. I'll post my results from tomorrows trip, I'm REALLY looking forward to this......Skeet

I posted about it on the Florida board, but I'll save you the trip. Fished behind another boat and got 19 plus a stud 'Gill. One of the crappie was 1lb 14oz and wanted nothing to do with coming to visit. It worked very well, and the weight and balance was just what I wanted. The line started out a bit stiff and once wet and used for a while it began to behave a lot better. It seems I have another favorite Lightning Rod to go with the 6'6" that I already had. Tossed a 1/32 and a small body just fine.
Those lightning Rods are bargains . I've owned a few of them and still do . Gillchaser

Thanks for the input. Been wondering what the current version of the Lightning Rod is like. Good luck and great fishing this year with the new rod.
Wife and FIL gave me a 6 ft. light action Lightning Rod for Christmas a dozen or so years ago. Never would have bought it for myself (just not a brand/model that appealed to me), but I put a small reel loaded with 2 lb. mono on it and it has been my favorite bream rod ever since. I cast 1/64 oz jigs farther with the light action than with ultra light.
Good choice on the rod Skeet..I've got 5 of 'em
Prefers, I was throwing a Panfish Assassin in Albino, but keep about a dozen or more colors on hand. The slow descent was what they wanted. One of the heads I used was a ball head for tying, so even lighter. I have some nanofil and Stren Crappie 2lb on the way. In this case I also believe that the Clear leader on the braid helped put a few more in the boat than usual. It currently has some 10/2 Super Slick Power Pro with a 4lb clear stren leader about as long as the rod. Cryin shame I have to work or I would be out playing with it some more.
