Default JDM reels relating to panfish

Here is video of an unboxing of a reel I got today. One turn of the handle only takes in 23.6 inches on one turn of handle....should be able to slow crawl some micro jigs with it pretty good.

    Regards

Nice looking reel, maybe show a picture of the two reels, 1003 and 2004H side by side so we can see the size difference. And of course you opened a can of worms with the adding of bearings to the drag and the reel handle. Are these additional bearings available local, hardware stores, or do you have to order them? Just curious, never added bearings to a reel, know some that do and swear by it.

Hey! I just got my JDM Daiwa Luvias 1003 today myself! Shipping was actually pretty fast from Digitaka, about a week.

The reel is gorgeous, smooth as silk, and light. I love that is has an anti-reverse switch (Shimano made a mistake removing this feature from the Stradic CI4+ IMO).

I don't have a nice JDM rod to put it on, but it is spooled up with 4lb test and sitting on a 6' UL StCroix trout series rod for now. Hurricane Michael has passed, and the wind is dying down, so I will be on the lake trying to catch some crappie and shellcrackers with it in the morning. Tight lines!

Edit to say: I bought the reel on your recommendation, and thanks for letting us know about the sale.

Congrats! IMHO it is the best bang for the buck for a “Made in Japan reel”. They sure are sweet reels. I have super tuned mine and they all have a total of 12 bearings now.....makes them even smoother. Nothing at all wrong with a St Croix trout rod.....hope you give that reel a huge workout.

    Regards

I can take a pic of the reels side by slide but I doubt you could see the difference in a pic......but maybe you can. It is 10 grams lighter.....the spool is a little smaller as is the whole reel. The handles are the same for the 2 reels. Adding bearings to certain reels is advantageous. By me adding the 2 bearings to the handle it makes reeling just that much smoother. Replacing the metal bushing on the drag support with a bearing certainly will help improve the drag some....but that is not something we can feel. I get my bearings off of eBay. I have also got some out of Japan. HedgeHog and Boca are 2 well known names. For some reels you can add bearings and really turn it into a super nice reel. The Stradic Ci4+ is one of those reels. For 30 bucks you add 1 bearing to the handle and you replace 3 nylon bushings in the reel with a bearing....makes a big difference. When you get into the reels made in Japan at the upper range no place to add bearings. Those are the reels that sell from around $280 and up. The new 1003 is at the bottom.Name: IMG_1721.jpg

Thanks for the picture of the reels side by side. I thought there might be a big difference between them. I looked online for some videos of drag and handle bearing replacement and it seems easy. Did not realize the Stradic reels have the nylon bushings, I learn something new from this site on a regular basis.

Yes I used it to catch a bunch of crappie at Laurel Hill Lake. It performed as I expected. I was in need of another Mebaru rod for crappie and while I have the Rockin’ Drift....in my opinion the best cast and retrieve crappie rod in the world......I needed another rod for crappie....of course it’s great for Gills also. But another Rockin’ Drift was out of the question and I wanted a Mebaru rod but a different model. It has the new Sic-s guides which are shallower than the normal Sic to save weight. I really like it. Loads up on crappie really good.....just like it was designed for crappie. Going out in the morning to try it out some more.

    Regards

Happy to report that, in spite of the high wind blowing my kayak around like a toy, I reeled in 2 fine shellcrackers with my new Luvias. Going again tomorrow with better conditions, I hope.

Alphahawk: Can you PM me the link for the super tune kit you used?
