I was able to catch about 6 rainbows and oh boy did they put up a nice fight! The only issue I encountered was that I was overcasting many times. Not sure if it’s because of the light weight of the combo or if the rod tip is more rigid than my other rods but I was constantly over a few feet to where I wanted to position my lure. For instance, a a side cast left to right I ended up too far to the right and vice an versa until I got used to letting the line go earlier. Anyway here are a few photos. No great angles but the stream was very overgrown and full of slippery rocks so this is the best I could do without dropping my phone in the water.

That sure is a sweet looking setup.

Not surprised. From my brief write up of the rod "There is just enough flex in the rod tip to propel the light lure well. A heavier lure, like a 2.5g Daiwa Crusader spoon, just goes like a bullet. I can almost guarantee that your first cast will be in the trees on the far bank. Do be careful when you take the rod out for the first time."

Thanks for the info. Been using Google translate to read about JDM rods. I keep seeing some with a torqueful action. What do they mean by that. I would assume that means a regular taper not fast.
    Thanks

Both will have great build quality but I would give the nod on build quality to the Tenryu...it is actually made in Japan and I would expect the build quality to be impeccable. I do own a Tenryu Lunakia and the build is absolutely impeccable. I don't know of many 'Area" trout rods with the full cork grip. Chris Stewart is a member of this site and he can tell you all you need to know about the Tenryu...also another site member has the Tenryu and has nothing but praise for it. While I am not a fan of full cork grips I do have a rod with the burl wood reel seat with split cork grip and it sure is a thing of beauty....you sure will not go wrong with either one of those rods.

If you're interested in Daiwa Presso AGS, I would look at PLAT. They've brought back two models discounted at 50% off; they will charge you an arm and a leg for shipping and handling, but it will still likely be a very good deal.

Thanks.....saw that. The rod I want is the Presso Limited AGS and they are selling them at full price of 560 dollars. I’m still in touch with the seller in Japan that has one for about half that price. But he only ships EMS so waiting on the mail service to start again.

Default JDM rods relating to Panfish

    Hello Everyone!

I am plugging away through this thread to try and educate myself on JDM UL tackle. I am coming from the fly fishing world with an early history of bass fishing and I am totally intrigued by this JDM spinning tackle. So far I am 70-something pages into this thread and watching lots of TroutMagnetMan/Alpha on YT, so I'm starting to get a clearer picture of what I'm looking for and wanted to reach out for clarifications.

So I'm trying to decide between starting slow (and knowing me upgrading soon after once I love it) or jumping in with both feet but possibly getting the less than perfect fit for my first outfit.

I live in GA and will be targeting primarily panfish and trout with the rod, but it being GA I will hook into plenty of LM Bass and Spots--so looking for something durable. I want to primary (65%) fish with microjigs/plastics but I also really enjoy small rapalas and spinners. I’m not sure how micro but I see 1/64 doesn’t seem uncommon (learning).

That sounds like I'm after a tubular ajing or mebaru rod between 6'6" and 7'3". I typically fish around the Atlanta area, in the Hooch for trout and the areas reservoirs for panfish (still learning locations, I’ve been focused on trout).

It seems like selections are VERY limited right now. The Luvias s2000c is tough to find, as are Yamaga Blanks and Graphite Leader/Olympic rods.

    Jump in slow options:
    ROD:
MajorCraft Triple Cross in T682AJI or T732Aji
    REEL:
    Shimano 19 Stradic 1000s or c2000s
    Shimano 17 Soare Ci4+ C2000SS PG

    JUMP IN BOTH FEET:
    RODS
-Yamaga Blanks Blue Current JH 67/TZ Nano or 71/TZ Nano (both out of stock everywhere I've looked, reached out to Digitaka and Plat
    -Tenryu Lunakia 6102S-MLT (currently available)
    REELS
    -Shimano Twin Power c2000s (available)
-Daiwa Luvia c2000s (not available anywhere)

Ok so thats as far as I've gotten. What I'm looking for in terms of advice is: am I accurate enough about the offerings for what I'm trying to do that I can't go wrong with the high end stuff or is it better to jump in slow with maybe one of the nicer reels? I could jump in right now and get a Major Craft to see how I like it with a nicer reel and save some money while learning the style/possibly breaking a rod while new to finesse fishing. OR just go for it.

Should I wait for the Yamaga BC or is the Tenryu a great fit for what I'm trying to do? Or try it out and learn on the Major Craft?

Trying to avoid Chinese products but Vietnam/Malaysia/etc ok.

THANKS SO MUCH for all the input and conversation y'all have done already and I thank you all for any contributions to my questions. Have a phenomenal day!

I lived in ATL for many years. I used to fish Charlie Elliott WMA a lot and got some nice bass/catfish up to about 4# on my JDM rods. I was using a Yamaga Blanks Blue Current JH Special 65/TZ. There are lots of JDM rods that will work, though. They can handle good fish.

Love your name, BTW. Only a trout guy could be a "scud muffin".

The Soare Ci4+ will be lighter than the Stradic and will have better drag for ultralight applications (bearing-supported spool shaft). The Stradic will have better gearing (micromodule), though for ultralight may not matter much. The Soare Ci4+ is also better than Stradic Ci4+ (which is just as light as the Soare but does not have the micromodule unlike its aluminum cousin) for not a lot of premium. I have the very Soare you've mentioned, and I think it is a great reel for ultralight jigging.

You can find Luvias FC LT2000S at Asian Portal with free shipping (they will charge a couple of dollars worth of handling fee) for $250:

Daiwa 20 Luvias FC LT2000S - Asian Portal Fishing - Japan Brand Fishing Tackle

They restock frequently, but these reels fly off the shelves in a matter of hours or less (for example, restocked 4 last night, gone later). Check daily around 9-11 am Japan time. I have bought two from them, they ship via Fedex. Right now, they have FC LT2000S-XH and FC LT2500S.
Thanks Scud_Muffin thanked you for this post

Thanks, I enjoy your name too. It’s fun coming up with usernames. Appreciate the info on the YBBC TZ. It seems like in TroutMagnetMan’s YouTubes he can bring in some decent fish. I just don’t want to get one that’s too dainty.
