It's hard to buy a rod that you can not hold first. I have $400 to spend. Would like to get a nice sensitive rod for crappie and blue gills. Ordered a Daiwa presso ags but it was canceled due to shipping. Really have my eye on a Daiwa presso ags 62ul or the 62ML. Wish I knew more about the actions of these rods. Been looking at the Tenryu Rayz Alter to. I just can't decide. Any recommendations? Must have a full cork handle. Most of the time I like to throw around 1/16 jigs.
    Thanks

Since you are wanting a full cork grip I would say the 2 rods you are looking at fit the bill. They both will be sensitive but just on specs alone I would give the nod to the Daiwa AGS Presso for sensitivity. Both will have great build quality but I would give the nod on build quality to the Tenryu...it is actually made in Japan and I would expect the build quality to be impeccable. I do own a Tenryu Lunakia and the build is absolutely impeccable. I don't know of many 'Area" trout rods with the full cork grip. Chris Stewart is a member of this site and he can tell you all you need to know about the Tenryu...also another site member has the Tenryu and has nothing but praise for it. While I am not a fan of full cork grips I do have a rod with the burl wood reel seat with split cork grip and it sure is a thing of beauty....you sure will not go wrong with either one of those rods.

I've got the Tenryu Rayz Alter 6'2 UL and it's my best rod. I fish for bluegill/shellcrackers with it and it's an absolute blast with the 2lb SOS line fighting a 12 inch shellcracker!!

It's unreal how small the guides are towards the tip and how thin the tip area is on that pole. I was worried that it wouldn't be strong enough to handle 1.5lb shellcracker that I catch on Lake Barkley, but it has proven its worth.

If your browser will translate this website there is some interesting information on Japanese rod building and blanks. I am not affiliated or sponsored by.... just doing research, something I enjoy. Blanks and rod building kits here also.

I thought the same thing with my Tenryu 6’2” little Luna. The largest fish so far has been an 11 1/2 inch smallie that was not skinny and put up a great fight with at least 3 moon launches. The Luna handled it no problem and only bent in the upper third. They are amazing rods with incredible technology. One thing with these rods that stands out is how absolutely smooth a cast is. It is tough to describe but you can feel the difference. I’m using 3lb wild Trout JDM line and again, I’m impressed at how well the line casts, its softer hand and how it lays in the water. The fish don’t mind the hi viz and I wouldn’t be able to tie a knot without it.

The Evergreen Limber Tip SS has arrived, and I'll be taking it out later today. I was worried when I saw the box all banged up, but the rod inside was well padded and taped to an aluminum pole. So 6 working days from Singapore to N GA via FedX. I put a new Daiwa Ballistic 1000S-P (with the ebay bearing kit) with 2 lb test Gamma Panfish line on there. First impressions: beautiful rod, so light, tiny guides at the very slim tip. Not whippy like the BC 71 TZ/Nano, but not stiff like the Tict SRAM. I think this is going to be an awesome crappie n' 'cracker rod, as well as trout in the river. I'm headed to a small reservoir that has a lot of panfish, plus a good population of spotted bass, to try it out - as soon as the storms in the area move out. Later in the week I'll hit the river for trout.

I’m excited to see what you think... how is it compared to the Tict Rockin Power?

The Limber Tip SS is more like a true UL rod, or what I consider a true UL rod, while the RP leans a little to the L side. They are similar, and I'll have to fish them side by side to really address that question.

I went out for a few hours yesterday before thunderstorms ran me off the lake. I marked a lot of fish, but they weren't biting very much. I went with the "Randy" rig - a 1.5 g Daiwa jig with a sowbug trout magnet. Finally got the first fish on, but I did not feel the hit as the bass hit it on the drop, and I saw the strike watching the line. I thought it was a bass, and it was, about a 2-lb LM. My first fish on the LTSS, and it was quite a fight. The rod had quite a bend in it, but it stiffens up toward the butt, so the bend is more "traditional" rather than a whole-rod bend like the 71 TZ/Nano. I was able to put pressure on the fish when it dove for my anchor rope, and turned it.

I went to another cove to see if any 'crackers were hanging around, and they were. I immediately hung and broke off my jig in the brush, so I tied on an orange/white/chart 1/16 oz hand-tie jig. The second cast in 14 feet of water, on the bottom, was hit like a freight train. Fish on! My second fish on the LTSS was this 1.2 lb shellcracker, and he gave me all I wanted in a fight. The rod performed beautifully, and I was able to keep the fish from getting in the brush. This fish pulled much harder than the bass did, and I had the LTSS completely doubled over.

Unfortunately, a storm sneaked up on me, and I had to skedaddle to the ramp before I could catch any others. I don't like lightning, especially holding an expensive lightning rod made of almost pure carbon. I'll be going back in an hour or two if the radar clears up. Might get me some wigglers on the way, and try to catch some more 'crackers; since I only had the one yesterday, I let him go.
