I know, I went loaded for Gills and came back with my tail tucked between my legs. When I get the boat out I will be able to carry more weapons to battle with. Multiple rods and lines sizes will keep them honest

Today I had a chance to compare the sensitivity of the 2018 Corto to the Finezza Prototype. First let me say the Corto is a great rod and I highly recommend it. I fished for white bass today and then headed for the tailrace below Normandy Dam for trout. Both rods had a Daiwa Luvias reel spooled up with 2.1# test ester line. While the Corto is great the Finezza is simply phenomenal. It can be extremely difficult to compare sensitivity between two high end JDM UL rods. Something to keep in mind is the the Finezza has about a 150 dollar premium over the Corto. Of course they are different rods designed for different specie. While fishing for trout I would catch one then switch rods until I caught another. I was using a Trout Magnet on a 1 gram jig head. While I caught fish on both rods I caught more on the Finezza. I missed a lot of trout with the Corto. The feel when a trout would hit on the Finezza is far more pronounced than on the Corto. The feel of a hit on the Corto is very muted when compared to the Finezza. I have stated several times that when I have made higher steps up the ladder in terms of cost I have felt the difference. One wonders how much better can it get. Allsorts had mentioned the term steely....and the Finezza is most assuredly that. I do a lot of what I call “twitching”. It is a constant movement of the rod tip......almost like small tremors. When I first fished the Finezza I noticed the tinny sound the line made on the guides when I constantly twitched. Another big difference I felt fishing them side by side is the resistance of the jig head. You never lose feel of the jig head with the Finezza even though your line gets a slight bow in the current as the jig head drifts down stream. At times I would lose jig head feel on the Corto. So what does all this mean. To me it means they are both great rods....but it also means the Finezza is at another level. It also means somewhere in the future I may have to try a Super Finezza and a Super Corto. Before today that may have been a thought in my head but not something I would have followed through on. Now my curiosity has kicked in...can these two rods I mentioned be that much better? I had the same thought when I ordered the Finezza Prototype.

Is the Corto not an Ajing Rod and the Finezza a Mebaru Rod? Both Light Game but target two different fish. Good report, would you tackle the Smallies in Dale Hollow with the Finezza?

I have to give 2 answers to that question. If I went up just to target Smallies I would take the Corto and leave the Finezza at home. If I went up there knowing I was after bluegill and shell cracker...but knowing that I’m going to encounter Smallies from time to time I would take the Finezza. You are right about the type of rods. Two different animals totally. The Finezza can handle a Smallie but as I found out today the Corto maintains its rigidity with a fish on more so than the Finezza.

I’m behind on videos but some have been inquiring about the Finezza Prototype. Here is a pic of a 14 inch white bass stretching some 2.1# test ester line. Check out the bend of the rod as the white bass was digging.

Tested out the 6’ 10” Lunakia today fishing the catch basin below Normandy Dam. Did not take the GoPro......I should have. I was only going to stay for about 45 minutes...3 hours later I had netted over 100 trout and bluegill. Most of the bluegill were 8-8.5 inches. Normandy is not known for big bluegill. Cast to the left of the seam....bluegill.....the right of the seam catch a trout. Had a lot of really nice trout....a few looked to be about 15 inches. I know I had some drag pulling fun. Now...to the rod. Bite detection is superb. Fun factor is at the top. It has the power to tame a 15 inch trout with no problems yet is fun with bluegill.....even smaller Gills. The rod casts well but not as well as the Finezza. Which really is to be expected. This is my first rod that is a hybrid being a mix of Ajing/Mebaru. I would say they nailed it. It is a rod I can take to Dale Hollow to fish for Gills and not be afraid to hook into those 20 plus inch Smallies.
