About to pull the trigger on either a Tict 6'11'' SRAM or the Ice Cube 69P Rockin' Power. The Power seems just a touch heavier than the Finesse (which is out of stock) with a 9mm butt instead of 8mm, and is rated for braid instead of mono. Anyone have one of these or know why it isn't rated for mono? Russians seem to catch some big pike on them, and the Tict website seems to show the guides are a touch bigger.

Been studying over your PM. It's hard to say about the Power model. I still suspect I have a Power model dressed as a Finesse model...but I have no way of knowing that. I say that because of the weight of the rod and the size of the butt on my Finesse. I know it is unlikely they used the wrong blank but it is not out of the realm of possibility. No matter which one it is a winner for sure. I can only assume the Power model would be similar to the few hybrid light game rods to hit the market this past year. While the Ice Cube line is for mebaru there sure is a big difference in the power between my Finesse and the Drift. Watching a lot of videos it appears the Power is more rigid than the Finesse. I've had my eye on the Tict SRAM. In my opinion it will make a fine rod..but will be more rigid than any Ice Cube model.

THANKS! Ordered the Rockin' Power! Woot woot! Got a feeling my old rods are going to get lonely, but they are useful for long lining, something I would NEVER do with the Tict. Gonna make me a hard case for it out of PVC, or sumpin'.

Also ordered a couple spools (on sale 20% off) of varivas 0.5 (2.3 lb) orange polyester line. I have a 500m spool of 0.4 mono (Daiwa Justron) I got off ebay. I'll put my Luvias 1003 on it, but I plan to pounce on a 2000 size Luvias as soon as there is a sale.

Congratulations on the new rod. Cannot wait to see some fish pics with it.

I've looked a longtime, finally pulled the trigger last night. Knowing me, I'll buy another JDM rod in short order. What would be a good compliment to the Triple Cross??
Congratulations on your new rod also. I really like the Triple Cross. Give it some seat time to determine what rod you may want next. Getting the right lines for the right situations really complements these rods. Hope to see some fish pics from your new rod also!!

Thank you! I can guarantee you that I plan on giving it a whirl as soon as it arrives. To the best of my knowledge, the big redear here on Barkley aren't truly up in the shallows quite yet. That should certainly change very soon, perhaps as early as this coming week sometime.

What particular kind of line should I spool on the Luvias? Should I get the Varivas 2lb line??

I tried the Ester and found it has manageability issues, as Alphahawk states but in all fairness I did not give it an extended run, and did not fish it from the boat, bank only. You may want to start out with the SOS 2lb Trout Magnet Line. With stretch and forgiveness it will not exceed the rod rating and is cheap and readily available (Walmart). It took me about two months of bank fishing to get the hang of the hookset, the drag settings and feel, the fight and not wanting to boat/bank lift the fish while using these rods. I personally like the 2lb Nanofil, do not know its breaking strength and cannot get a darned leader knot to hold with any confidence, but have not run into any water clarity issues to just not tie directly to my lure with the braid. Your Mileage May vary, and I am sure the more experienced anglers familiar with that lake can attest to a good Red Ear Line. I do not catch many up here in ETN, and definitely not the size I see photographed from that great fishery. I am still taking small steps on this journey with the line choices.

I've actually been using good ol' Mr Crappie 4 lb hi viz on mine. It casts well and is cheap, but I have it on a cheap, but good, Chinese rod (Cadence). If your rod demands it, like JDM rods as Randy, Stan, Chris have explained, get the "real" 2 lb test. Also if that Varivas is the polyester stuff I hear it has no stretch so watch those hook sets. I've yanked a #6 Mustad hook with a cricket on it into many a big bream's mouth, but I am trying hard to cure that bad habit with these light lines. Hard to teach this old dog.

Edit: I can never find that 2 lb SOS at the Walmarts around me. Academy down the road doesn't stock it. Going to run errands, so will check another Wm opened recently. I wish Mr Crappie had a 2 lb test.

Unfortunately, you are correct about your other rods getting lonely. This past week I took three rods to the lake for some afternoon Crappie fishing. The St Croix LXF 7ft one piece Panfish special, and two JDM rods, the 7.6 Soare and the Majorcraft X-ride. My first fish of the evening came from the Soare, but I realized real quick the softer tip was not the ticket for snatching them out of the thick brush, as they are nesting right now. I put it away and started using the St Croix, my rod of choice last year. ( Before getting my first JDM rod) I made about three casts with it, could not believe the difference in sensitivity (lack of) and put that one in the rod box also. Next up was the tubular tipped X-Ride, and it was on then. With enough power to wrestle them out of their snaggy dens but sensitive enough to feel the 1/32 jig head with Trout Magnet tic through the limbs, I am satisfied the St Croix may not go back in the boat this year. Guest rod at best. Just looked up the specs on your new rod, should be an excellent weapon.

I have 2 rods on the way from vfourmax... the 6’10 corto and the majorcraft triplecross... I think the triplecross is going to my dad for his birthday but I might buy one for myself if I like the feel... I am excited about the corto taking the place of my 7 ft st croix trout series as my big trout rod... I am already impressed with the 6’1” corto for stream fishing and can’t wait to feel its big brother... interested in the feel of the triplecross as well...
