i can tie a leader to the superline that will hold but the knot is too big for my liking. the tip eyes on all my jdms are tiny. i've tried every knot i can find on you tube and still usually cut the leader off and tie direct to the jig. that little tic the knot makes when you reel the knot through the tip drives me nuts. esp when you consider that one eye on the tip cost about 30 bucks.
LOL.....since I started tying the surgeons knot correctly I don’t have any problems with the knots going through the guides. I think you may have some rods same as me with the 3mm tips on them. I thought the 3.5mm were tiny but 3mm is hard for me to even thread....LOL.

I've been looking for corto, it's sold out and I guess just have to wait for it to go back into production.
If you cast it they will come.

Do you know what is the smallest guide that will fit through. I’ve seen it many times but they do not list the guide size. I’ve been looking at some on Plat for months but they are only good for #4 guides and above. Number 4 is small but many of my guides are 3.5 and several are 3.

It will be worth the wait.

Same story, different night. Started out with a shock leader until a Smallmouth took it and my bait to Davy Jones Locker. So I tied directly to the jig, as Murdok alludes to also, and bam, the second and third leg of the Bass Slam were then easily captured, photographed and released.

Back to the drawing board, I have tried the 5 turn Surgeons knot a couple times now and it is still slipping from the super lines, Fireline Crystal and Nanofil. I caught another Largemouth tonight on the JDM braid and the Surgeons Knot did not fail from the leader. I am going to practice the Uni knots next and try them, about to give up on the shock leader thing. Fishing from the bank in the afternoons is fun and has allowed me to try some different baits and jig head combinations but has tested my knot tying patience for sure. iPhone acting up also, can’t post pics from it like normal, gives me a white screen when I choose the paper clip option.

Uni knot takes a bit of time and is not a quick knot imo but I don’t have any issues once it’s tied... you are catching fish and that’s what matters... Id love to catch a fish right now lol

Well....the good news is you’re catching fish and having a ball....LOL. I have no clue why your knots are not holding.

Why not 2# mono plus a shock leader?

Last year I switched to Nanofil exclusively on all my Panfish rods and reels, which included the (then new) St Croix rod. I was amazed at the sensitivity the super line gave me when it came to Bluegill and Crappie bite detection, especially when vertical jigging for deep Crappie. So this past Fall with the purchase of my first JDM rod, a Mebaru rod, I tried the 2lb SOS Trout Magnet Line. It just felt mushy with the soft tipped rod. Now I have not tried it (mono) with the two newest Ajing rods, stiffer tips for sure. I will definitely give it another shot since everything I read says mono is more forgiving with knots than this newer stuff. I have another Luvias on the way to replace the Plueger President XT that I literally wore out over the last two years. I will spool it up with the 2lb mono and give it another try. It is about time to get the boat out and I will be able to experiment even more with the lines and knots on the different rods.
