If warranty is important to someone they don’t need to be purchasing gear out of Japan. Although a few I have read about have sent high dollar reels back and they have taken care of it. I’ve broke two JDM rods and have replaced the top section.....both were 2 piece rods.

It depends on which rods you buy and where you buy them. Low end Japanese rods don't have any warranties. More expensive rods do. If you buy the rod from Finesse-Fishing.com the Japanese warranty is honored. You have to have the warranty card, but you don't have to fill it out. You have to return the part to Finesse-Fishing (in the US), not to Japan. Finesse-Fishing sends the part and the warranty card to Japan. If Finesse-Fishing has the same rod in stock, you don't even have to wait for the part to come back from Japan - it is taken from a rod in inventory.

However, all the Japanese rod warranties I've seen are one year, one use, one part - meaning you can only use the warranty once, to replace one part, within one year of purchase. There is a warranty processing fee that varies depending on the rod, but is generally in the $20-60 range, plus the cost to ship a replacement part to you (from the US, not from Japan).

Please note that this service is offered only for rods purchased from Finesse-Fishing.com

That’s good info to know. Do they not examine the rod to see how it was broke? Many companies here may decide you broke it from negligence and not replace it. I’ve never been hung up on rod warranties. Shimano used to have a great warranty years back. I had a Compre UL and I think Bass Pro replaced it 3 times for me, no questions......Shimano covered even negligence. But those days are gone. I don’t recall ever breaking a rod on a fish.

I’d need to know a budget. Yes they are on eBay but usually at a higher premium than you can get at a Japanese web store.....but not always.

If I’m not mistaken you catch a lot of big copper nose Gills. If that’s the case I would go with this one and never look back. Ledhed, Chris, and Allsorts may have some different recommendations. To me this is a great rod...at a great price for someone’s first JDM rod. Really a great rod for the money no matter first JDM rod or not. It’s a 6’ 3” solid tip model.

I need one for big coppernose for sure. Wish it had an old-school cork handle though.

JDM trout rods have the cork but I’m not sure you would be happy with a very soft trout rod catching copper nose.
