After some research and a PM to our resident JDM expert I decided to try an Ajing rod from Majorcraft. The Triple Cross line is within my budget and having the lightweight Sic guides and Fuji reel seat, the features of the 7.3ft model caught me, literally. About a week delivery time from Digitaka and I was in business, or so I thought. A stomach bug from the office pot luck kept me in the bathroom and doctors office for a week, so after a 7 day regiment of two nasty antibiotics I was ready to try out the new weapon. Just so happens the skies opened up and we received record rainfall with lakes coming up about 10ft over a few days time. The local creeks were running pure mud for days, finally starting to clear up on Monday. Now with Christmas Eve/ Christmas looming I knew better than even mention fishing to my wife as she was barking directives like a crp4570 Goose Photo from the Photography board.

Great picture by the way! Anyway, after a painful and long morning of After Christmas Sale shopping I managed to get out for about an hour this afternoon and give the new rod a whirl. I put the Plueger President XT with the 3lb Nanofil on the rod and tied on a Trout Magnet tipped with a Lunkerhunt Larvea. Bam- first fish was one of those line sided freight trains again.

This creek is known for them, but has also produced my PB TN Crappie years ago at 2.6lbs. A test of the drag and line, not the rod on this fish. He was released, and I forgot to check his tongue patch to see if he was a small Hybrid or large White Bass as his lateral lines and sides were not as clear as the one I caught here a couple weeks ago. Next up my intended targets, the small to midsize gills that hang out in this creek.

The two largest ones fell prey to a new bait I tied on, a Spade Grub from Lunkerhunt. The water had cleared tremendously from earlier in the week and this bait color almost disappeared in the creek but was the ticket as the sun was fading. Rat a tat bites were telegraphed instantly with the stiff solid tip Ajing rod and the fight from the feisty cold water Panfish was enjoyable. Right at dark I felt the characteristic thump of my favorite adversary and old Speckle Belly ripped a few yards of line from my loose drag then came in for a photo opportunity.

A thick Black Crappie finished my evening. I really like this new rod and look forward to getting some more seat time on it. I think one of the other members on here bought this same rod not long ago, from my first impressions I do not think it will disappoint.
