Got a falcon reel and a gloomis that is sweet
Hi all, looking at ordering a ultra light rod 5.6 inches. I'm looking a 2 reels. One is for 2lb to 6lb line ultra light. The other one is 6lb to 12lb. In y'alls opinion what be the better reel for a ultra light rod. I am fishing for bluegill, crappie. I would think I would use 6lb or 8lb line. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

why such a short rod? These are excellent rods...I have the 70lxf and love it St. Croix Rods | Panfish Series | Freshwater
You really can't go wrong with a pflueger or shimano reel. 25 size for the shorter rod, 30 if you go longer
Thanks for the fast replies. I didn't say but the place I'm fish is a small creek with lots of over hanging trees a branches. We fish out of a boat so the shorter rod is a plus. Thanks for all the input.

Might consider a 5'6" ESP UL rod (model # E56ULS) ... fast action tip, high modulus graphite, graphite "Tenn" style handle. Made for 2-4lb test line, but I use 6# test copolymer and it handles it very well. It's my primary dock shooting & short distance/confined spaces casting rod. The rod is balanced well with a Shakespeare Alpha XT 1000 reel (but, unfortunately I have no idea what the reel weighs).
Grizzly Jigs 2014 catalog has these rods selling for $55 (but they are not shown on their website).
I got mine free as a fieldtester for the designer, and liked it so much I made it my primary UL rod. ( http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...dock-shooting/ )

BPS microlites are nice and pair it with a shimano 1000 such as the Siena. I agree 4-6 pound is all you need for panfishing. Especially, if throwing lighter baits.
I don't like them for any other use, but for the application you described the Shakesphere Ugly Stik ultra light is a great fit. I'm with the others in voting for the smaller reel to balance the outfit.
Thanks for the help. I think I will go with the shimano ix1000 and matching rod. I'll let y'all know how it works. I will order it ad try it out a see how it works. Thanks again.

I am nowhere near as experienced as most of the folks here, but I got a 5 ft 6 rod set up with a Abu Garcia Cardinal SX10 reel and i love that reel, it is smooth and i ve never had a problem with it, i think it was 30 bucks or so.
