    Default BFS crappie

Before my recent hiatus I had begun exploring some BFS reels as I really prefer using baitcast equipment over spinning. I had already been slowly drifting back to fishing for smallmouth as much as crappie so it fits right in. Finally got on the water yesterday for a couple hours, tied on a 3/32 black maribou smallmouth jig and was amazed how far I could cast it. I only caught two fish and go figure. One was a crappie. On the bank about 4 foot deep. That's not the 10killer I know.

I’d not heard of a BFS-style reel before. What brand are you experimenting with?

First one I bought was a Kast King Zephyr. Paired it with a vintage All Star rod designed for 1/8oz up. With the Zephyr it will throw 1/16 when adjusted properly. Liked it so much I ordered an expensive JDM Daiwa. The KK was just as good or better so I have another on order. They are in the price range of a Pflueger President spinning reel. BFS is not for windy days or anything lighter than 1/16 but is lots of fun when you can do it. MUST be paired with the right rod, of vourse.
