Default Lake Eufaula for Mother day weekend, taking my fishing pole

I have been tentative granted access to a boat dock at Lake Eufaula this weekend.

Any suggestions on what tackle I should take? What fish if any should I expect around docks?

You may think this a dumb question, but I am new to this Oklahoma style fishing. I am of the school that only dumb question is the one you don't aks.

I haven't fished there in a couple weeks but last time I did there was still fish around docks at that time. The lake right now is 5ft high and dropping so I honestly can't tell you what to expect or even what to try. A couple weeks ago dark colors where working decent until dark then natural colors seem to work better. Sorry I couldn't help much. Your welcome to pm me if theres anything else I might be able to help you with.

First day fishing at Area 51. Used a green Northland Tackle Mimic minnow fry and caught 3 crappie and smallmouth bass. Every one else was using minnows and caught nothing.

I started with a cast and slow retrieve along the edge of the dock. Second cast I caught the crappie that according to the bartender was the biggest fish caught so far that day and he called it a 2 1/2 pounder. I was using 5 foot light action Ugly stick and it was exciting.

The other fish were caught by simply walking the lure back forth slowly up nd down the dock while jigging the pole up and down.

While fishing to fellows walked over to me introduced them selves told me a couple of places to fish right here near the cabin. Great day fishing.

    Absolutely!

Made my bones catching fish when no one else was. That is what brought those two guys over to talk to me and telling me how to get access to the lake side by the cabin.

Although that crappie was a good one, I doubt it was 2 1/2 pound fish. Caught it on an ultralite rod and it was a fight! Fun!

    Another weekend at Eufaula.

Set one pole on the bottom for catfish. Used Chicken liver which didn't last long and didn't catch anything. Any tips on rigging chicken liver on a hook?

Floated a worm on another pole which caught several small blue catfish and a bunch of these little light colored bass like fish. What are they? Also caught One single crappie on the floating rig. I was using my wife rig. She had a float on the and small jig head on the end. I just left the jig head on and threaded the worm on. I cast the set up, up wind and let it drift down. Got a bite every drift but not always a fish. Tried a plastic worm but the bite wasn't as hard.

Caught one crappie on this set up also.

While these two poles were sitting, I also threw this little two lure and caught several of these bass. I think they are small mouth, are they?

One area I drug the lure through seem like I was bumping so under water weeds or something every time i passed through. Then reeled this in from there.

That inkpen is 5-3/4 inch long and the lure I was throwing is two inches long. This little guy had the tail of the lure in his mouth when I landed him.

All in all a fun week end. Now that I have found some place to fish I don't mind going up to the lake.

For your chicken livers. egg sinker, swivel, 2' leader, interloc swivel. Then push your treble through the center of the liver and snap onto interloc. They have to hit it pretty good to get it.

Hey, thanks for that. I picked up some spring trebles when I was in Cabela's. I have to make up a couple of these rigs.

We fished with Dusty Keener of D&K Guide service. We were happy with him and wanted to book another trip with Dusty in June , but his next opening isn't until the last part of July. We are booked.
