Default What would a fat 18 in sand bass weigh?

I recently had some work done on my outboard motor so I took it to Keystone yesterday just to run it a little and make sure everything was working as it should. On the way back to the ramp I stopped at a windy point and made a few casts with a chrome Rattle Trap. I got two hits. One I lost at the boat and it was huge. The other one I landed. I put it on the ruler on top of my ice chest with the tail pinched together and the nose just edged over the 18 in mark. It was so full and fat it almost looked deformed. I had no way to take a picture so I returned it to the water. I am certain it was a sand bass and not a hybrid or striper. I guessed the weight to be around 3 lbs or a little over. What do you guys think?

Tough to say without scales. Though not a sand bass I’ve had 14.75” crappie weigh 2.25 lbs and a 17” crappie weigh 2.2 lbs. The 17” looked like it was on crack. Have seen a lot between these two sizes with all weighing different up to 2.75 lbs. 18” fat as you say I’d guess 3 - 4 lbs. Always have scales.

if it was so fat it looked deformed it was likely a hybrid is my thoughts .
sandbass can get fat ,but if it looks deformed fat and the stripes are dark ones it is probably a hybrid .
many anglers get easily confused , in answer to original question around 3 lbs

I at first thought it was a hybrid until I got it in the boat and had a good look at it. Lines were not dark and it had a single tooth patch. I have caught numerous hybrids and white bass and know they are easily confused and it was definitely a white bass. I had planned on just running the boat and just threw in a rod and a few crank baits as an afterthought. Didn't take a tackle box, landing net or scales. Guess I'll know better next time. I think it was in Kansas a few years ago that they thought a guy had a new world record white bass but genetic testing proved it was a hybrid. Anyway, it was fun. The boat is running good and I got my line stretched. While I was running around in the boat I found a few new brush piles and Crappie spots that require further investigation.
