I headed south to get out of as much cold as I could. It wasn't bad when I showed up but was pretty bad when I left. Wind was hideous. BTW Fishing has taken a turn for the worse with the bad weather tho. Mostly drove to and fro looking for spawning action. I did find one cove at the very back that had big males setting up on a channel break from 4 to 8 foot deep. Females mostly still deep and tough to come by, piles dominated by small fish. Got to check out the big males competing for nest areas on the LS. They were charging back and forth at one another and mostly ignoring the boat, busy about their business. Even when I would blast them with the trolling motor they would come right back. Not interested in eating but you can get them to bite by putting a big jig on their nose. Ended up with 5 over 1.5lbs tons of shorts from the piles and a dozen medium size fish. Water temp started at 62.5 and dropped to 58 by the end of the day. Visibility was 24 plus inches so had to downsize the baits and go with natural colors to get fish to bite. (except those males competing for spots).

Great pics Redge, I looks like you guys had a time. Sat. the cold front had water temps dropping like a rock, messing things up. It will be starting to crank up good on every lake down south by next weekend. Air temps are supposed to be 70 to mid 70s Tuesday on till Sat. The big males that I caught shallow Sat were fully dark. Lots of places on my radar that I have never tried, may get out and try some new waters. Its a good time of year to go poking around. So many places to fish so little time!
