Don't think anyone is gonna have to worry about minnows for awhile, the last place to access the lake was Pioneer ramp and today the road to the ramp was barricaded off. Have friends that had camping reservations the 3rd week of June for 2 weeks and they were cancelled and their money refunded so they must be looking at July before they get this mess cleaned up. If we get the rain they are saying the next 5 days, it may not open until labor day if at all.
I’m pretty sure that is the same price the Red barn charged in the past. When your the only show in town, supply and demand certainly rules the day.
Contractors have been in and out of the old Red Barn for a couple of weeks so don’t know if it’s going to sell minnows or be some other business.
At least we have Sooner 20 minutes from me and some small area lakes to fish while Kaw is flooding.
Yes, and in my case a more than a dozen is too many.
If you have any plans to camp on Kaw this summer change them. We got hammered with historic rainfall up here. There is 65,000 cf going out and 120,000 cf coming in this morning. Lake came up 3 ft in 24 hours. Flood pool is at 90 % and climbing. All access to the lake are still closed and will be for a long time. More rain in the forecast. I will be surprised if the campgrounds open by labor day. We are moving to different lakes.
Still catchin them up here George even with the lake still 30 ft high and no boat ramps. Basically unloading in Pioneer parking lot. Caught alot of fish this morning dropping a flicker shad spoon in flooded tree tops just tough to find bigger fish. Had to change the treble hooks on the spoons to #1 light wire single hooks but it still worked well.
a bit off topic but I figure this is the place to ask and get an actual answer since calling around yielded a bunch of "not my area" answers. Any chance someone knows if the atv trails are open down there? Since fishing isn't much of an option anywhere local, trying to find an alternative outlet for outdoor recreation.
Thought I would give everyone something to look at. Had an unbelievable day. Caught close to 100 crappie, sandbass and hybrids pushing jigs tipped with shiners. Had probably 30 to 35 crappie and kept a few. Don't let the high water scare you off, find the shad and the fish are close. Fishing in 10 to 30 fow today from 7 to 15 ft deep. Lake is still 30 ft high but water is clearing up. Water temp is in the low to mid 80s.
