the fish are spawning right now way up the little feeder creeks. Had 29 in 2 hours males turned jet black in my livewell. Get out there and fish shallow. EB

How much longer does the main lake turn on to spawn than the feeder creeks?

In my experience the creeks turn on from Late Feb-1st 2 weeks in April. Mouths of the creeks April, Lake Last 2 weeks in april- First 2 weeks in May. Some years it will last till June. this may very depending on the moon phases water levels and temps. EB

Yes in my experience that mid late April to first of May seems the more consistent times for main lake action. Thanks EB

Ran around the south end Saturday and sampled the spawn. Two of the small creeks I checked had spawning fish, one of them was in full spawn mode the other just getting started good. The main lake coves I checked had just a few males shallow, bigger fish and females still mostly holding at the mouths of the coves in water 12 to 15 feet deep on piles and cover. Water temps from 60 to 64 cloudy day. The bank fishermen I saw were doing well, so there is something for everybody- full spawn, prespawn and bank minnow dunkers. Seemed to be lacking in bigger fish on the south end, lots and lots in the 1 to 1.25 lbs tho.

Anyone on the lake in the last few days? I haven’t been on the lake in the last 2 weeks. I’m taking vacation tomorrow to go but it’s a 2 hour drive one way for me to go. I’m concerned about what the rain has done to the fishing. It appears the lake is still on the rise. Not wanting to know anyone’s fishing spots just if the rising water and gates being open has killed the fishing for the time being before I waste 4 hours on the road.

If you go be sure and give us a fishing report! My info is 2nd hand from 4 days ago so it doesn't mean anything now but the last report I got was from a guy who fished the public fishing dock their in Crowder and he only managed a couple of keepers, said the hot bite had really slowed down with the cold fronts pushing in and out.
